Dr. Paula Hirsh Koeller, MD

I have been seeing Dr. Koeller for my eating disorder for many years. She can be stubborn and strict, which really butts heads with an eating-disordered mindset! If something threatening recovery arises she will stand her ground, even if one's eating disorder is going into panic mode; she is perceptive and can differentiate a healthy from an unhealthy mindset, and will not let the latter win. Having said this, she is also fair and listens well. I found that she is very understanding of what her patients are dealing with and is committed to see them through to recovery (and beyond). I would recommend Dr. Koeller to anyone who needs a physician that will hold them accountable for their actions, will be a good primary practitioner in general, and will help them achieve maintenance in recovery.

I have been seeing Dr.Koeller for just over 2 years throughout my eating disorder recovery. She is supportive of my choices regarding my recovery, and listens and is understanding of what im going through. I feel that I can be open and honest about my thoughts and behaviors, and she will be supportive and encourage me to use my team (therapist or dietitian when appropriate). I feel that she is exactly what I want out of a doctor through my eating disorder treatment. (I had 2 different providers that I had very negative experiences with prior to Koeller)

I have an eating disorder and saw Dr. Koeller, who specializes in them, for a little over a year during my recovery. She was the opposite of supportive. Constant threats of hospitalization occurred and she had a very "my way or the highway" attitude. I decided that I didn't need to see my dietician anymore because I felt comfortable with where I was at and Dr. Koeller said she couldn't see me anymore because "it's my protocol that you see a dietician and if you don't want to follow it, you need to find a new doctor". IF YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONE HAS AN EATING DISORDER, DO NOT SEND HER TO DR. KOELLER!
