Dr. Paula Jean Mcmurtry, MD

I really liked her but she had no desire to look beyond the immediate bloodwork despite historic symptoms amd blatant inflammation. Implied my condition was mental health related. She has a really good bedside manner, I chose her specifically because she was a female and I thought she would be more diligent and proactive. Two weeks after sending me out the door my Derm took a skin biopsy that was positive. I had the results sent to her and asked for another appt. I didn't even get a call back. I really only wanted help getting my health sorted out and life back. Went to St. Mary's in Jeff City where I got excellent care from a doctor who treats people, not lab results. He ran his own labs through quest a day after 6 other BnB labs and they were indeed positive for CTD. If your doctor can't or won't listen, RUN. Find one that is passionate enough about practicing medicine to persevere with you. I would not recommend this doctor. She is not passionate or compassionate enough to be… practicing in her specialty.

This is the second rheumatologist I have seen in the Columbia, MO area and hands down is the best doctor I have ever been too. I appreciate her taking the time to talk with me and my husband, very thorough in discussing treatment plans and is knowledgeable about my condition. Her staff is equally friendly and efficient. Highly recommend.

She is not an alarmist. Very laid back, but misses nothing. I am sorry that I cannot find another one like her in the KC area.

The Dr. Is great. However the nude, rec. Is rude, inconsiderate and has zero compassion for pts. In pain or sick. She needs a new job and the Dr. Would see more satisfied pts. With a caring staff. Dr. M is so nice its a shame, and I'm not the only pt. That agrees. There just are not to many competent rheum. In the area to see so we put up with it. Sad very sad.

The staff is not competent. I waited to here from them for two weeks about the results from an MRI. I usually have results called to me by a doctor within 2-3 days. The doc said it was the hospitals fault for telling me I should hear something in a few days. I don't feel like I am important to this office. Whenever I talk to the nurse/clerk, I get the feeling she is irritated that I have a question.

I believe that Dr. McMurtry is a competent physician. However her office staff run her business in a very unprofessional manner. I arrived over an hour ahead of my appointment time because I was dependent on Medicaid transportation. The office staff didn't check me in upon my arrival, even though I signed in. At the time of my appointment the office staff called me to the window, asking my what my copay was. I replied to the office staff that they should know what my copay was and that my insurance had changed. The office staff then reviewed my insurance card stating that Dr. McMurtry did not accept Medicaid. I asked them WHY they had not read my paperwork, or called to check to see if my information was still correct (since it had been over a year since my last appointment). They said it was my responsibility to notify them that my insurance had changed. I replied that my responsibility was met by my PCP sending them my facesheet containing my information and they would have… known that if they had read it. I informed the office staff that Dr. McMurtry was listed as accepting Medicaid and I was not a new patient. I was told that was not true...that they did not accept medicaid. I asked WHY would you allow me to sign in and wait an hour before asking me if my information was up to date. That question was met with quit rude behavior...blaming me, the customer for the problem. What on earth has happened to customer service. Need People in healthcare who CARE about patients/customers and KNOW what their job is. Medicaid paid for a 3 hour round trip...a waste that would have been avoided had the office staff performed there job according to routine health care standards. To bad the office projects on the physician. I believe that Dr. McMurtry is a fine physician.
