Dr. Payal S. Kohli

Hello. I am a 38 yo female that has been on antidepressant medication since the death of my father 16 years ago. I have tried to come off of the medicine a few times and experienced 'rebound depression' as explained by the physicians therefore I have unfortunately remained on the medication. The reason I explain all of this is because I am a patient that would rather not be on any medicine. I have seen and established with only 4 other physicians during this 16 years, and each time the change in provider was due to relocating to another city/state. I moved after college, then after graduate school, and one other time. I am a compliant patient and have always done what the providers have asked of me. In the past year I took a travel position working on EHR's and fly weekly on Monday and Friday. I explained this to Dr. Kohli at our first visit and also relayed I would need to see her on Monday and/or Friday due to my travel work schedule. She is in the office both days so… this seemed to not be an issue. My company has changed my travel days a few times and I was required to stay over the weekend thus interfering with a couple of scheduled appointments with her. I called the office and either rescheduled, or canceled, and told them I would have to call back to reschedule once I knew of my flight days/times for the upcoming weeks. I saw Dr. Kohli after this happened once, and explained to her. She said for me not to worry about it and actually said I was a 'simple and easy' patient. The cancellation policy I was informed of requires to cancel and/or reschedule prior to 24 hours before the scheduled appointment. I did this every time. *The only time I was marked as a "no show" was the first appointment to establish at which I went to a different facility that came up for their address in Mapquest. When arrived I was told that Dr. Kohli was at another office. I called her office, explained what happened and said I was 15 min away and heading there now. I was informed Dr. Kohli does not accept patients more than 10 min past their appointment time, and allows only 1 no show after which she will refuse to see the patient. I apologized for Mapquest taking me to the wrong office. I had never been there before as I had just moved to the area therefore was not familiar with St. Elizabeth having multiple locations. I told the receptionist to please re-book me. She asked if I was sure as this would count as my 1 "no show." I explained I have never "no showed" for an appointment in 16 years and had her reschedule the first visit. I was not concerned with the no show policy because I'm a compliant patient. At the first encounter, Dr. Kohli refused to refill the medications I have been on for over 15 years now, one of them being an antidepressant. She said she needed me to sign a release and get the records from my previous doctor. I called my previous provider and asked them to refill the medications for one more month until Dr. Kohli received the records. They had no problem in doing so as I had been a patient with that provider for the previous 3 years and had no issues there. Actually, to date, Dr. Kohli is the only provider that has ever refused to see me in over 16 years. I think that speaks volumes. At the time, I thought perhaps she was a very strict physician and likely had dealt with many non-compliant patients, at least that is what I gathered by comments made from her during the first encounter. I understood she did not know me and therefore gave her the benefit of the doubt. I actually appreciated that she was a physician who held people accountable. In this day and age I wish more providers did just that instead of handing out inappropriate medications to those who do not truly have a medical indication for being on them. I have not written a review for anyone in healthcare and for that matter I am not one to write reviews, good or bad, simply because as a young working professional who travels weekly I do not have time. However, what happened today in my opinion is not acceptable and hence this review serves to hopefully prevent others from this type of treatment, or lack there of. I have had to call and cancel the last 2 appointments in a row because of being in Dallas and not being able to get back to Hebron, Ky on the day of the appointment. I called and rescheduled, then called back and explained I needed to cancel all together and would call back once I got my travel schedule for the upcoming weeks. The receptionist took my appointment off of Dr. Kohli's schedule. Today I called to re-schedule that appointment as I actually have an entire week at home, with no travel. To my complete surprise I was told Dr. Kohli put a note in the computer that I had "too many no shows and cancellations" and also said to not schedule me with her. At all. I am somewhat in disbelief as I have followed the policy and called to cancel and/or re-schedule prior to 24 hours of the appointment each time. Again, my only "no show" was at the 1st appointment to establish when Mapquest took me to the wrong St. Elizabeth location. I have no refills on my medications and take 3 in total. I am truly disappointed with Dr. Kohli and St. Elizabeth's policy to allow such things to happen. I do not understand how she can make a decision to not see a patient that has in fact followed the rules I was told. If I was on insulin, would Dr. Kohli have treated me the same, and refused to continue being my provider? Furthermore, I was told I cannot be scheduled with anyone else there as that is also in their policy. I now do not have a provider and will be out of my medication within 2 weeks. As we all know, it usually takes longer than 2 weeks to find and establish with a new provider. This is the definition of medical negligence which is when a provider refuses
