Dr. Payel Mackie-Mason

For Payel MacKie-Mason, M.D., the calling to become a physician goes back to when she faced major surgery at age 12. She remembers her wonder at the doctors’ ability to heal and the compassion shown by the entire care team. Today, Dr. MacKie-Mason advocates for children and their families, putting empathy first in her interactions with patients and placing great value on the opportunity to comfort them during a time of great stress.Dr. MacKie-Mason, who is fluent in Bengali, studied medicine at Wayne State University. She went on to become a resident in anesthesiology at Northwestern University and a fellow in pediatric anesthesiology at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia and the International Anesthesia Research Society.Outside the clinic, Dr. MacKie-Mason enjoys time with her family and outdoor activities such as running, hiking and going to the beach.
