Dr. Peck Yeow Ong, MD

Peck Ong, MD, is Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at University of Southern California. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. Dr. Ong received his Allergy training with Dr. Donald Leung (ADRN Principal Investigator) from 1999-2002 at National Jewish Health, Denver, Colorado. As part of Dr. Leung’s research team, Dr. Ong showed that atopic dermatitis patients have a low level of a natural skin antibiotic called defensin that may explain why they are more prone to skin infections. This study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine and remains to be the most cited study in atopic dermatitis research. Since 2004, Dr. Ong has been at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where he developed an atopic dermatitis program that treats children with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. His research interests are geared toward solving clinical problems including Staphylococcus aureus skin infections, food allergies, development of asthma and …differential diagnosis of atopic dermatitis. He has served on various national committees on atopic dermatitis including the Atopic Dermatitis Work Group for the American Medical Association, Eczema Committee for the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and Dermatological Allergy Committee for the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
