Dr. Pedro Luis Dago, MD

I was feeling suicidal in a bad job just after Trump was elected. A psychiatrist friend referred me to Dr. Dagos. He listened closely, asking pointed questions and then changed my medications. He nailed it the first time and gave me my life back. The situation was unchanged (toxic job and Trump) but my dysfunctional emotions evaporated. I will be forever grateful for the referral to Dr. Dagos and his great skill with me

Dr. Dago is an outstanding doctor. I credit him for saving my life while I was his patient for 18 years. He is incredibly thoughtful and knowledgeable. He is a psychopharmacologist, more of a clinical tactician than a touchy-feely therapist type. He is very good at what he does and cares deeply. I would give Dr. Dago the highest review out of the MANY doctors I have seen - because he gets results.

Dr Dago has worked hard with me in med management and listening to my issues. He has a extensive knowledge in medication. I have seen him for years and I am very pleased to say he is full of compassion and empathy. He listens very well. I would recommend him to others. He is prompt with his time. He has helped me through many crisis and then stabilizing me. He's open to looking at improving my meds and using as little as possible. He is very committed to his patients and willing to help.

My husband used Dr. Dago about 10 years ago after having trouble getting to the right medication level with a psychitrist that did both counseling and drugs. Dr. Dago found exactly the right level of medication for him after a series of 6 appointments, and it has worked for 10 years.

Dr. Dago was uncaring, abrupt and condescending. There are too many competent and compassionate psychiatrists in Chicago to have to resort to being treated by this man.

Dr. Dago worked hard to help me and convinced me that, together, we'd fine a way through a really bad period. He succeeded and I am now in the best shape mentally I have ever been. Trust him. He's well worth it.

I will begin by talking about booking an appointment for a psychiatrist (Dr. Pedro Dago) thru the NW Memorial Physicians Group. The whole experience really was emotionally draining. The arrogance of it all is what got to me. Apparently, you are just a number to them.First, let me start by saying that, when I was in the middle of an medical and emotional crisis (ie when my medications were causing me severe issues), my parents called around 4 pm for an appointment with Dr. Dago, and by chance there was an opening the very next day. When I was too ill to come in and see him (I was too sick to leave the house), my parents called early in the morning to cancel. Rather than showing any kind of empathy or understanding for a psychiatric patient in an emotional crisis, they slapped my parents with a whopping bill for the "cancelled" appointment, and gave them a headache about it, which was tough to deal with when their daughter was so ill. They said there was a 24-hr cancellation policy, but… how could you cancel 24 hrs in advance when you make the appointment less than 24 hours beforehand? My mother called the second the office opened, early in the morning. Talk about a lack of respect for your patient! Anyways, I still wanted to see him, but I was not stable enough to be consistent about appointments. There weren't any no-shows, mind you, but I cancelled several times without even getting the chance to see him. I had been under severe stress due to my illness, and ultimately cancelled several appointments *several weeks in advance* in my fragile emotional state. They certainly weren't last minute cancellations, and they had plenty of time to book another patient in the spot I freed for them. Some of the appointments were cancelled *months* in advance.Although I certainly didn't cancel last minute at all, but Dr. Dago refused to see me (I guess I had damaged Dr. Dago's very large ego thru my cancellations-sorry that I was in the middle of a crisis!). Anyways, it turns out I am now banned from seeing anyone in the Northwestern Physicians Group-any doctor at all, due to a stupid policy of theirs which states that if a new patient cancels an appt w/o seeing a Dr. several times, that patient cannot be seen by anybody in the group. I asked them, what if I was having a crisis? Then you can go to the emergency room, they coldly told me. Ouch. They really need to work on their policies and their atrocious customer service. I just wanted to warn you all on their terrible cancellation policy. Huge egos. Think twice before going to them...Also, I have to complain as well about another policy of theirs: prior to even seeing a Dr., for 1st time patients they have some of their secretaries call you prior to scheduling your first appt for an "assessment." These secretaries ask you for your detailed medical history, prior hospitalizations, medications you are on, etc. This is all strictly confidential information that I only am comfortable sharing with a Dr who I know will protect my privacy. I don't need to divulge my whole history to a secretary!! She is certainly not a licensed professional and doesn't need this information. It's another silly policy on their part. They need to reevaluate how they handle things.

i felt like he was money hungry too. He would always want me to make an appointment for everything, even routine refills, that way he could make money off of me instead of just calling it into the pharamacy. I know have a pharmacist who is quite laid back with me and doesnt' set appointments for me when they aren't necessary. Sometimes when dosages were working for me, he would want to change them because they weren't "elegant'. I didn't care - as long as it worked. Another thing, he was too conservative in changing or increasing dosages. Maybe so he'd get paid for more office visits? Thankfully, since I've left him I've found a doc who fits my needs perfectly.

Visiting with this doctor was my only experience with a psychiatrist, so I'm not really sure how to compare him with others, but the medication he prescribed helped a lot and I was able to wean on and off by following his advice. He's a bit socially awkward. He knows his stuff and its clear he's got the science part of medicine down, but his bedside manner is a bit lacking. Still, when dealing with head meds it's good to go someone who knows the science and art of this stuff, so I would say, all in all, he's not a bad doctor.

Ahhhh the "med guru" - I feel like a guinea pig. No bed-side manner, won't check on you from day-one, if medication doesn't work (i'm now worse then when i started and I was only mildly depressed) he seems annoyed with you. I agree the only real staff member is as rude as everyone else said.
