Dr. Perry Nicholas Mandanis, MD

I have had social anxiety since childhood. I managed OK but really had trouble in college. Dr. Mandanis and I worked in therapy to understand my anxiety, and to fight it with facts. I used medication for awhile and that helped too - but mostly I think it was therapy that gave me confidence socially for the first time in my life.

Dr. Mandanis got to the bottom of a problem I had struggled with for years. Medications either didn't work or had so many side effects I couldn't take them. He asked me to bring in a pharmacy print out of everything I had tried, carefully asked me about the ups and downs of each drug, so together we figured what to try next and IT WORKED. I have my life back.

We were desperate for some success with our teenage son and decided to send him to a boarding school in CT. How lucky were we that Dr. Mandanis consulted to the school. He reevaluated our son's medications and provided him with therapy that made a huge difference in his ability to get school work done, follow rules without as much drama, and be successful in high school. He is scheduled to be a Senior next year so we are still holding our breath, but we feel like he is on track now and is getting the supports that he needs with Dr. Mandanis.

I have had so many terrible hospitalizations for depression before I met this doctor. He spent a lot of time with me to understand what each episode was like. Dr. Mandanis helped me when I had given up hope. He asked me to bring a print out of all of the medications I had taken in the past -- thirteen pages in all -- and after taking a history, together we took a look at medical options. I am now on medications that have worked and I feel like my old self again. He is a little expensive because he is out of network, but worth it when so many other treatments have just been a more expensive waste of time.

Until I met Dr. Mandanis, I had missed so many days of work because of depression and anxiety that I was at risk of losing my job. Thankfully, he recommended new medications that I had not tried which helped. Meanwhile, we worked on skills that I could use to fight my sad and anxious thoughts.

I have been seeing Dr. Mandanis for a few years now. I have come a very long way. When I first went to see him I was dealing with a great deal of depression and anxiety. Between medicine and talk therapy my improvement has been incredible. I am a productive member of society, which I struggled with for years. I have seen other doctors in the past but he is by far the best I've ever seen. Way to go, Dr. Mandanis!

We had seen several other doctors for my wife who has had a lot of difficulty with depressions that did not respond to treatments. Dr. Mandanis challenged our thinking about whether or not her symptoms were merely biological, or were from a combination of things. She had resisted having therapy before. Once she started working with him for her meds and therapy together, it made a huge difference in her life and she has been much happier for the past several years. Because she is so important to our family and family life, everyone is happier as well.

Had terrible experiences all around with this man. Will treat anyone like a child, will not respect and work with your opinions, uses many meaningless and unhelpful scientific analogies, and is generally very judgmental and rigid. His strategy is unlike any I've encountered so far: not helping or assisting, but instead giving an ultimatum or "there's nothing else I can do for you", which is a dubious thing to say to a suicidal patient. Overall I cant see any positive effects from seeing this psychiatrist besides having my existing prescriptions renewed, which could have been done by any physician. He instead wasted months I could have spent searching for a better psychiatrist. Far worse than the other 4 I have been to in the past. Some possible upsides is that he is soft-spoken and not at all intimidating.

We had taken our child to many doctors and kept trying medications and therapy, but she wasn't making a lot of progress. Finally we found Dr. Mandanis who spent a lot of time with her and our family, sorted out her history and gave us a new diagnosis, and approach to helping her. New medications worked out great. She is now doing very well and plans on attending college in the fall -- we are very relieved and grateful parents.
