Dr. Peter Johnston, MD

My Physical therapist recommended me to see Dr. Johnston after no success with 3 months of PT, I could not lift my arm up. After the first visit he was Dx me with scapular winging not a frozen shoulder. He was very thorough with the evaluation and took time to explain the Dx and what causes it. After a few tests , He then was able to determine I had a herniated disk in my neck causing the scapular winging. Not only did he help me through the issue, he also reach out to a very good neurologist who and got me in to see him within a week and surgery the very next week. I am so blessed and great full to have seen Dr.Johnston. Within three weeks I had most of my range of motion back. If you ever have a shoulder problem go see Dr. Johnston

Dr. Johnston is an excellent surgeon. He has great bedside manner, and explains his methods and goals in easy terms for a layperson. He will be my go-to for future orthopedic issues, which i am sure will occur.

1st appointment was Oct 27. Dr Johnston ordered x-rays & completed that day. MRI was also ordered and completed after my return from South Carolina on Nov 16. Follow-up appt on Nov 18 Dr. Johnston advised the pain in my right shoulder was arthritis. If the pain worsens he could go in and scrape the bone. Prior to leaving the appointment I got a cortisone shot.

Dr. Johnston is such truly good doctor , he takes the time to go over everything with you he doesn't rush out of the office . He makes you feel like you are his must important patient that he has . This was best choice or a doctor that I have every made .

I put off my shoulder surgery (complete joint replacement) for years solely due to my fear of the procedure. But, when the shoulder wouldn't let me sleep through the night, I sought out help. I had had a superior previous experience with Dr. Travis at the Southern Maryland Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center, so that was my first stop. Dr. Travis introduced me to Dr. Peter S. Johnston. Dr. Johnston does shoulders. And, I'm here to tell you he is good at it. Dr. Johnston operated on me first thing Monday morning. I was home at 3pm that same Monday! I was off the pain meds by Thursday. And, I was back to work the following Monday. I can't possibly say enough good things about the entire staff. If you've had any surgery you know that the surgeon is really like the quarterback of the whole team. Dr. Johnston couldn't possibly have accomplished what he did for me without his efficient, well-organized and caring team. And, I mean the entire team, from the girls at the… front desk to Joe and Tanya at the Leonardtown Surgery Center. Every step of the way my surgery was a tightly choregraphed procedure mixed with a nurturing human element. From the personal phone call I received from Dr. Johnston the night before the surgery to Joe's pre-op story of how she came to be called Joe, I always felt safe, secure and amoung caring confident people. I highly recommend Dr. Johnston, The Southern Maryland Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center, and the Leonardtown Surgery Center.

He and his staff are very personable, punctual, and professional. He also takes the patient's concerns into play when making a plan of action.

After spending many months in pain for a frozen shoulder and many visits to other doctors and pain management specialist, I was finally able to understand my injury after seeing Dr. Johnston. He was able to provide me with a diagnosis and ensured that I understood it. He explained the treatment plan options and has work with me and my therapist to ensure that I continue to gain function in my shoulder and increase my range of motion. I am so happy to be pain free and almost fully recovered.
