Dr. Peter Charles Kohler, MD

Based on reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect when we were scheduled to meet with Dr.Kohler, Medical Oncologist. Our entire process & planning with the Cowell Cancer Center Team was awesome! Dr. Kohler spent a great length of time with us. He reviewed test results & explained the grades of the 9 biopsies that were taken. All our questions were answered. We discussed all of my husband's options & the best plan of action. We had a clear understanding of the entire process. In fact, the plan was put in place before we left the center. His nurse checked with insurance & my husband was able to get his first injection by the time we were finished meeting with the radiation oncologist. We had spent the entire day meeting with everyone on my husband's medical team. We were well informed & left the building with a notebook full of information & contacts we'd need during this treatment process. I always check reviews, felt that you should know how grateful we were for Dr. Kohler.

Ok initial appointment laying out options for treatment of 4th stage colon cancer, fielded questions, concerns well, rather clinical not surprising. Neglected to mention a critical potential side effect of chemo treatment was high risk for stoke, which happened (patient lived an hour away from hospital). It is likely this treatment would not have been selected had we known or at very least would have stayed in town the day or two after the treatment when stroke risk was highest. Dr appeared indifferent once cancer took off and he wasn't able to respond or relate to the family's concerns/questions. He initially declined allowing hospice status in hospital - didn't think the situation warranted (yet any lay person could see the inevitable). Very frustrating. Dr felt patient had possibly several weeks to live and we should take home (Sunday or a Monday). That was the last time we saw the Dr. (family member was there on 24 hr shifts) and patient died the following Monday. We… were not expecting miracles as the diagnosis was grim however we did expect honesty, availability, and communication. Probably would be a great research professional.

Office staff is very rude. I'm a patient of Dr. Kohler's and it is hard to get a timely appt. Doesn't seem to want you to be your own advocate. I'm not at all impressed with this doctor or his office staff. I think I need to move on to another doctor.

Go to Dr Ruch. You so have other choices. He is so pleasant. Dr Kohlers office staff were very rude and Dr Kohler was unbelievable. I went twice. I will NEVER go back there. He did not make me comfortable at all

Unfavorable - old school. Does not like to be asked questions about diagnosis/cancer and the plan. For specific cancer, this is the only Dr in town, so you are stuck.

Better bed side manner.Quicker response to treatment.
