Dr. Peter G. Vayanos was born and raised in Athens, Greece. Peter has an older brother and sister and a twin sister. With his brother already in the states, Peter and his twin, Athena, came to the States in 1997. He was very excited to submerge himself in the American culture, especially the people and the geography. Peter finished high school in Groton, Massachusetts and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2005. It was at the University that Peter met his future wife, Elena.
After finishing his undergraduate degree, Peter moved to Boston, Massachusetts to attend Tufts Dental School. During his senior year, Peter completed his five-week externship at the VA Hospital in Togus, Maine. His interest in moving to Maine peaked during that time and Peter realized he wanted to pursue a life in rural Maine and serve communities where dentists were in high demand. He graduated from Tufts Dental School in May, 2009 and was …married a month later. He and his wife moved to Maine that July and he began his Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), returning to the VA Hospital in Togus, Maine. This program helped Peter gain more experience in placing and restoring implants, as well as, advanced surgical procedures.
Peter is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA). While at Tufts, Peter spent one summer working at the Emergency Dental Department and also joined the Student Teaching Program for minority students who wish to join the Dental School in the near future. During that summer, Peter was responsible for one student who helped research the effects of ozone in a dental clinical setting. It was found that ozone can arrest dental caries in the very early stages. Recently while in Maine he has volunteered at the Special Olympics, held at the University of Maine, Orono.
For many years, it was Peter’s dream to move to Maine and be surrounded by mountains, rivers, lakes, moose and loons! He lives with his wife, Elena, and their daughter Katerina in Vassalboro. When Peter is not working, he enjoys fishing, hiking, camping, skiing, snow shoeing, aquascaping. Whether sun, rain, or snow, Peter loves to cook on the grill! Peter is very excited and fortunate to have joined Dr. Laliberte’s and Wietecha’s practice. Both of them are great mentors with immense dental experience. Peter’s goal is to continue advancing his dental education with courses that target aesthetic dentistry, implants and periodontal surgical procedures.
