Dr. Phil Allen Aitken, MD

Diagnosed me with uveitis. Made time in his schedule to see me promptly when emergencies came up. Is extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. Sometimes the wait was long, but I was frequently a last minute add on so that’s to be expected. I always received excellent care.

I was referred to Dr. Aiken by my specialist for my eye pressure. I took the day off, had a driver take his day off only to end up with no answers and will see you in 6 months. He obviously never reviewed my chart as he suggested a large test and I commented why another one. He looked at me and I said my specialist sent the results of that exact test for you to review before my appointment, he looked it up and commented oh I was right..so you never reviewed my file before seeing me? Very LARGE waste of my time, zero answers.

Dr. Aiken may have the credentials, however, he is dismissive, sarcastic, and arrogant. At each appointment, I find myself waiting at least an hour or more for him. There is no apology for the back-up and you get the feeling like you are very fortunate to be able to see him. When I first saw him, a few years back, he provided very little in the way of a diagnosis regarding the symptoms and how they might affect me permanently. Nor did he inquire as to any other health issues I was experiencing to determine if there was a possible connection. At my most recent visit, I explained how my recent diagnosis indicated that there was indeed a tie to the eye problems I had been experiencing. Dr. Aitken reacted as being a little cross with me, if not dismissive of my diagnosis (rare and painful). My most recent visit was a waste of time and I'll not return to him. Arrogance in medicine should not be tolerated. A doctor's time is NOT more valuable than the rest of us; patients'… questions should be listened to and responded to and a doctor worth his salt will at least consider how a current problem may be related to other health issues or conditions; a modicum of compassion and/or empathy are important, if not essential. Instead, the aloof and dismissive manner of this person if both cold and non-caring.

Dr. Aitken is absolutely wonderful! I brought my son to him after visiting several doctors all of whom did nothing but make both my son and I feel scared and hopeless until we met Dr. Aitken! He is very thorough, kind, caring and compassionate! My five year old son loves him as do my husband and I. I honestly just want to hug the man when I see him. We need more doctors Like him!

Dr. Aitken diagnosed me with pseudo tumor cerebri in 2005. He was the one who told my neurologist I needed VP shunt surgery. He saved my life and I have not and will not ever forget him. He is amazing! He always made sure I was comfortable an got the care I needed. I am so greatful!

This was the second time I had seen Dr Aitken. The first time I thought he was fine; a fairly thorough exam, reasonable waiting time and he was courteous and knowledgeable. This appointment however, was terrible. I waited an hour plus to see him, and he rushed through the exam, dictated his diagnosis to his PDA without ever actually addressing me, and when I asked if I needed to get a stronger prescription for my glasses his response was "that depends- do you have lots of money to spend?" I know they were behind schedule in the office that day, but he seemed uninterested in answering my questions and told me if I had any further concerns to make another appointment or to talk to my Neurologist.

Although I'm a patient with complicated issues that I don't blame Dr. Aitken having difficulty with, I was highly disappointed in his mannerisms. He stared me in the eye and told me there was nothing he could do for me in one simple sentence. No suggestions; no referrals; no ideas; nothing. After long, painful testing, waiting around for 4 hours to hear his opinion, that was it. Bedside manner still speaks volumes!!

Dr. Aitken is thorough, knowledgeable, and caring. He takes the time to explain what he's doing, what he's seeing, and what it all means. I simply would not go to anyone else.Since he moved to FAHC, there can be a long wait, as they schedule more tightly than many private practices - but when you're with him, you have his full time and attention.
