Less about the doctor and more about the staff. Rude, unhelpful staff. Can’t be bothered to check you in like a normal human being. They send you to an iPad - meanwhile Staff is sitting there on their iphone. Someone walked in that the person knew, she said to him “Oh, you don’t need to do that” (meaning check in on iPad. Guess they are reserved for everyone else). X-ray tech - why do you need two X-rays? Me: I’m not sure where the pain is, that’s why my other doc ordered for two MRI’s - she didn’t like that answer so she chose to not X-ray me and walked away. Another nurse asked what makes pain worse - my answer was “everything”. Which is 100% true. But I was deemed as being “disrespectful” for not answering the question to her liking. I never raised my voice or said anything personally disrespectful - I just couldn’t give her the specific answer she wanted to hear. So she stormed out of the room and told me she was going to tell the doctor on me (yes, she really said that) Weeks… long wait for 0 answers. And, doc told me he'd call in a script and never did and has responded to my message over the portal. Last time at Rothman. I'll go to Penn from now on.

Dr. Koehler assessed my Dad after he suffered what we thought to be a pinched nerve in his neck that resulted in left hand numbness. We had been assuming that my father would need to undergo spinal surgery, but Dr. Koehler correctly discerned that my Dad had in fact suffered a minor stroke and that spinal surgery was inappropriate. He asked very good questions. He impressed me as a radiantly intelligent guy who seriously cares about his patients and their well-being. He took time to phone us during the middle of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to interpret test results and imaging. He gently steered us toward what was obviously distressing news but Dr. Koehler is such a clear and compassionate communicator that my Dad and I actually felt ok, even hopeful. He made sound recommendations about what to do going forward. Dr. Koehler is excellent — it was a privilege to interact with him.
