Dr. Philip Mark Tenbrink

My daughter was sent to the ER by our family physician, who is also a Union Hospital MD. She was sent due to pain, swelling, tenderness and redness in her lower leg that had been getting worse over several days, and x-rays had showed no fracture. Our MD called ahead to give report on her possible diagnosis. Once in the ER, Dr. Tenbrink waved it off as a sprain and was ready to send her home with ACE wrap. He would not listen to me as I was describing how she had also not been acting herself and also no appetite. He would not listen as we tried to tell him how the symptoms had gotten worse, not better over several days (not typical with sprains). The next day I took her to Dr. Jaafar at Union Bone and Joint Center. Dr. Jaafar took one look at her leg and sent us to Riley. At Riley she had surgery to remove infection from her leg, followed by 4 nights in Riley, then home with 6 weeks of antibiotic. If I would have listened to Dr. Tenbrink and taken her home from the ER with ACE wrap and… following the RICE guidelines, she may not be with me today. As Dr. Jaafar said, "She would have crashed". If you find yourself at Union ER and your MD is Dr. Tenbrink, leave immediately!

I’m absolutely appalled at this man’s bedside manner. He would not let me talk. He kept interrupting me. I cannot believe that this man is a doctor and won’t listen to his patients. I don’t even know what else to say...

I am hypocalcemic, and I entered the ER after my calcium levels dropped too low. Dr. Tenbrink did not listen to my symptoms and insisted I could not be hypocalcemic if my parathyroids were intact. He said I was merely having a "stress reaction" and chose to focus on the fact that I was not wearing my wedding ring, heavily implying that my husband was a wife-beater. After speaking to my mother and husband as if they were three-year-olds, he wrote me a prescription for Ativan (an anti-anxiety, even though my issue was low calcium) and discharged me. Avoid this man at all costs.

This Dr. did not take my migraine pain seriously. Said my pain was "inappropriate pain". I had my wisdom teeth removed and have had a migraine for six days with no relief. He basically made fun of me for being at the emergency room. needless to say I will be filing a complaint with the hospital administrator.

I do not like how he treated me in the ER. Dr. Tenbrink way very condescending to me and my family. He charged a crazy amount for his doctor fees for only a few minutes of his time in the ER (over $1200.) Will not use this ER as long as he is the doctor on call. I would NOT recommend him to anyone!!
