Dr. Philipp J. Fassbender, MD

Philipp Fassbender, MD, is Vice Chair, Perioperative Medicine and Associate Professor at Montefiore Einstein. As an attending anesthesiologist and perioperative care physician, Dr. Fassbender has a particular interest in transplant anesthesia and the economics of perioperative medicine.After completing preclinical studies in 2004 at Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany, Dr. Fassbender attended University of Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Germany, earning his medical degree in 2008. In 2012, he completed his doctoral thesis at the same institution. His postgraduate training began at University Hospital of Essen, Germany, completing his anesthesiology residency in parallel to his fellowship in prehospital emergency medicine. In 2017, he completed a yearlong intensive care medicine fellowship at the same institution. He continued his education in 2018 with Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen, Germany, pursuing his Master of Health Business Administration.Dr. Fassbender’s …research investigates upper airway physiology and ideal perioperative care for sleep apnea patients. His most recent research focuses on digital health medicine and outcomes disparities in perioperative medicine. His work has been shared through peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, abstracts, reviews and case reports. He is also a reviewer for several journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia and the BMC Anesthesiology.Dr. Fassbender is board certified and is a member of several professional societies including the European Society of Anesthesiology, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists.
