Dr. Phillip Gvozden, MD

I scheduled an appointment for my son for when he came home from college to have his vitamin levels checked due to me finding out that I and his younger siblings are deficient in a few vitamins while he was away. My family and I are vegetarians. So, I tried to explain my concerns about that and a skin condition that my son has to this doctor and he completely dismissed my concerns about the vitamin levels, and said that he would request initial bloodwork and if that requires more bloodwork, he would schedule that then. My son has to go back to college soon, so we do not have time for multiple visits as his college is over 4 hours away. I explained that, and the doctor looked me in the eye and said, "I will schedule the bloodwork as I will, and we will go from there." At first, I said ok and went to wait in the waiting room. But I realized that he was dismissing my concerns about my son's health. With the number of doctors who ignore the concerns of brown skinned patients until their… health is in jeopardy, I decided not to risk my son's health by trusting this guy to care for him. I went into the room and told my son that we needed to leave. He got up, we left, and I took him to the urgent care to be seen. The urgent care ordered the bloodwork and treated his skin condition without an argument. NO BROWN SKINNED PERSON SHOULD GO SEE GVOZDEN IF THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR HEALTH AND DO NOT WANT A MEDICAL MALPRACTICE ISSUE.

I must say I was not at all impressed with Dr Gvozden. First of all I asked him to recommend a good daily vitamin for me. He told me they don’t work and “ you don’t need them “ then I asked him for a script to get routine bloodwork. He basically told me I really didn’t need to get bloodwork right now. Note that I haven’t had any bloodwork done in almost two years. The worst part was he was he actually had a tobacco chew in his mouth while he was talking to me !!! Then proceeded to spit in the garbage can while I was in the room with him !!! I absolutely could not believe what I was seeing !!! Needless to say I will not be returning for another visit ....

I love Dr. Gvozden. I have several serious medical conditions that I deal with on a daily basis. Dr. Gvozden is down to earth and I feel like I can always tell him what's on my mind. I also work in the same building and when I see him in the halls he always checks up on how I'm feeling. His staff is amazing too. Even with everything going on with my health I can always look forward to a good laugh distraction with these wonderful health professionals!

My PCP left the area and I had to find another. I am glad I found Dr Gvozden. When I went for my appointment he was in no hurry to end my office visit. We discussed all of my health conditions and treatment to verify that everything was going as it should. He answered all questions that I had and made recommendations. He ordered blood work which was consistent with my prior PCP'S.

Far from the best doctor in Johnstown but he's also not the worst. I like the medical building that he's located in and I also like the location of it. It's very close to my home and they get you in and out quickly and easily. Gvozden's nurse and reception staff are very polite and helpful. Gvozden himself is not particularly personable. I feel like I struggle to make a connection or come to an understanding with him. I don't feel like he is great at explaining conditions and treatments and would sometimes even leave questions and concerns completely unaddressed. He was able to competently order SOME tests and order SOME helpful treatments. Sometimes he would briefly explain why he was going in a certain direction. Even though I didn't spend much time with him or get the opportunity to ask many questions, one time he told me I "didn't have a choice" but to accept the fact that he wanted to leave some of my concerns unaddressed, when just being polite and explaining why he'd like me to… wait would have been acceptable to me. I would see this guy for the sniffles. I would see him for G.E.R.D. I would see him a few times to get enough tests and get sent to a specialist (which is where I'm going next - I'm happy that he referred me). But if you have an illness that is chronic, debilitating, and you're looking for a good doctor to help diagnose, educate, and treat it - I would not recommend Gvozden. I would very specifically not recommend him for anything hormone related, as he orders incomplete blood work and doesn't seem to be up to date on the current information that we have about hormone related illnesses in both men and women.

I have been seeing this doctor for well over a decade. I fully intend to move on to a new physician for my general medical needs. He is often rude, indifferent, or plain unhelpful. Many appointments were completely wasted, as he provided little to no diagnosis, direction, or advice. I would have switched sooner, except that between OB-Gyn and other specialist appointments, I don't often need to see him (thank heavens).

He failed to diagnose a condition. Also, left messages before appointments, which went unreturned. Therefore, during appointments appropriate actions were not taken, and was told followup appointments were necessary. Horrendous bedside manner.

I had a great first appointment this morning with this MD. I look forward to seeing him as needed for check-ups and whatnot. I appreciated his courteous staff and speedy appointment. Location is great too! He is very nice, cool, laid back and informative. Able to understand. I try and take care of myself and make it a habit NOT to see MD's but I look forward to each and ever time now. :)

Dr Gvozden has a bad attitude towards his patients and doesn't speak kindly to them at all. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. I hear he used to be a "really good doctor" but I definitely didn't see that and neither did my family. There are so many doctors out there who will treat you like a human being and treat you good as a patient should be treated. If you go to him and thought about switching do so, I promise It will be worth. ALSO for the mean things that come out of his mouth make sure you be honest on your surveys and you always have the option to call conemaugh health system and report what has been said or what has happened.
