Dr. Phillip Anthony Munoz, MD

Dr. Munoz began his study of medicine close to home, having earned a B.A. in microbiology with Honors from the University of Kansas, and later his M.D. from the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). He went on to serve an internship in pathology at Northwestern Memorial Hospitals, as a research associate at the National Institutes of Health Allergy and Infection Diseases Laboratory of Microbial Immunity and as a resident in pathology at KUMC. He is Board certified in Anatomic Pathology.

Following residency and fellowship training, Munoz joined the faculty of the Department of Pathology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He subsequently became director of hematology at Research Medical Center and established the flow cytometry laboratory to support the growing needs of the hematology service. He also had oversight responsibilities for immunohistology and participated in general surgical pathology services. For the past five years, Munoz was a staff pathologist with WPM …Pathology in Salina, Kansas.

Munoz is active in a number of professional organizations, including the American Pathology Foundation, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, College of American Pathologists, Kansas City Society of Pathologists, where he served as president and secretary. Prior to moving to Kansas City, Munoz volunteered for an animal shelter in Salina. Munoz enjoys spending time with his wife and two grown daughters. He also enjoys photography, fishing, hiking, canoeing and camping.
