My niece was in crisis and did not have a local doctor. I was able to get her in to see Dr. Petersen on a 1 day notice. He was absolutely the most compassionate doctor I've ever seen. She was in alcoholic withdrawal, barely able to speak, curled up on the table. He was not only extremely gentle and compassionate, but he even took the medication from her shaking hand and put it in her mouth for her. We have b een to see him many times now, and he has never said a negative word to her. He is slowly managing her medications, making changes one at a time, in case there are negative side effects. He is very knowledgeable about PTSD and alcoholism. We rarely have to wait very long. His assistant is also very compassionate and caring, and is also very knowledgeable.

First of all sheculing an appt. with this doctor can be very frustrating as often you have to wait 2 months to see him. If you are actually sick you will most likely have to use the emergency room as he is either not there at all or is so tightly scheduled you can't get in. If you do have an appt. be prepared to wait a good hour to get in. Be sure and bring something good to read as the reading material in the waiting room and in the exam room is the poorest I have ever seen. On the plus side, once Dr. Peterson does see you he is generous with his time. It's also very hard to try and talk to the doctor personally as is staff runs constant interference and doesn't get your questions answered. Don't waste your time, find a good doctor in Lewiston.
