Dr. Ping Gu, MD, PhD

Dr. Gu has the worst bedside manner, is condescending, does not give patients the time and compassion needed. He rushes in and out of the room within 2 minutes and makes you feel like a burden with you have questions. The care coordination between the providers at MSK is horrible. The wait time for everything ridiculous. MSK has grown too rapidly due to their name recognition, but unable to handle the volume and patients.

"MSK staff is great, unfortunately Dr. Gu should not be practicing medicine. I have never met a doctor less caring, less professional and less involved with his patients care than Dr. Gu. He is administratively and technology challenged and he gets annoyed and agitated when you ask any questions about your treatment. He also never calls to tell you the results of your scans when they have been posted in the portal for over a week. Dr. Gu should not be patient facing as he is unable to explain anything about the treatments he is providing. When he finally blesses you with his presence (which is rare), he offers no useful information and only gives one word answers if you are lucky enough for him to even answer your question. I am surprised that MSK would tolerate this type of care from one of their doctors."

Dr. Gu is absolutely the best! So kind and caring. He makes personal calls to keep us informed. While I see some bad reviews on here, you have to understand that cancer is scary and not everyone will like the answers they receive. MANY treatments are not covered by particular insurance companies, i.e. proton radiation. My husband wanted to do proton radiation but the insurance refused. If he’s telling you that you don’t qualify for some treatment, there is likely a valid reason. I would highly recommend him!

Dr Ping Gu refused to do a liver biopsy for my father when I requested after a lesion was found on his liver, he said it wasn’t necessary. I asked for clinical trials, immunotherapy, genetic testing , proton therapy and his response was my father does not qualify for any of these with his situation (Pancreatic Cancer). Now that we have a new oncologist she has brought up the idea of doing biopsy, guardant 360 which test the blood for what the tumor consists of and she has went over several other clinical trials and truly is dedicated to helping people. She is doing everything she can to try and help . Dr Ping Gu did none of these things and pretty much said this chemo treatment is the last option. Don’t waste your time with him! Time is precious and all these testings should be done from the very beginning!!

Based on reviews her I thought about canceling my appointment...I'm so glad I didn't. Not only was Dr Gu understanding, and knowledgeable, he took the time to go over everything...and all staff were amazing as well. After waiting 2 mo after diagnosis with other physicians...I'm now getting the treatment I need and am confident in Dr Gu.

Dr Ping Gu is affiliated with NYU Langone on 34th Street (Cancer Center) it is so sad to say that he works for this hospital , because he has very bad bedside manner he is so unprofessional it is sad to say that this hospital hired him he makes this hospital like so bad.
