Dr. R-Jay Louis Marcus, MD

Having experienced previous surgeries under general anesthetic, I was told the anatomy of my trachea is narrow and compromised; needless to say, it was strongly suggested that I seek an anesthesiology consult in advance of future surgeries. I underwent a total hysterectomy in May 2013; I was most apprehensive of the anesthesiology experience. I requested Dr. Marcus and gratefully my request was honored. He entered my "holding room" with a plan; he had obviously done a lot of thinking about the best way to work through my situation toward a positive outcome. I introduced him to our son as, "this is the doctor who will put Mom to sleep". Dr. Marcus' response was, "and wake her up". The best point ever!!! He was thoughtful, deliberate and well prepared with his plan for a safe anesthesia experience. He told me what he was going to do before he did it and why. I inhaled a medication to totally numb my mouth, airway and the surrounding areas; he used a form of conscious sedation. … I was totally comfortable with Dr. Marcus as he said if it took me "one or two hours to get to sleep", well then that's what it would take. He said that he would "call the case" if he had to. I knew I was in the BEST of hands as he had every intention of making certain that I would survive this experience. I went into surgery with full confidence in Dr. Marcus' fund of knowledge and skills; I knew that he and my GYNE/Oncologist had every intention of creating the best possible outcome for me to continue living a productive and meaningful life. There are not enough words to express my gratitude.

I was going in for my first surgery and I was extremely scared. I was not scared about the surgery but more nervous about going under. When Dr. Marcus came to meet me and explain the run down of what happened he was very professional but personable. He answered all my questions, cracked some jokes to make me feel at ease, and explained in detail what he would be doing. He definatley cares about his patients and knows how to make them calm. When I was given the "cocktail" I don't remember too much. When I woke up I felt fresh and I was coherent of what happened and where I was and what happened. No groggy feelings or nausea. Dr. Marcus also came in after I woke up to check to see how I was doing. I can not thank him enough. He is a great anastheologist!
