Dr. Rachel V F Rohaidy, MD

Dangerously incompetent practice and a doctor psychiatrist who seems to lack both patience and empathy. It does not matter if you have an emergency, they simply don’t care. My Appointments have been pushed back and canceled several times, calls go unreturned for weeks or months even when you tell several different people you’re suffering and having an emergency. When I finally was able to get ahold of the doctor she quickly jumped to her own defense and the defense of her horrible nurse who never knew who she was calling or why. Her nurse either never relays messages or the doctor chooses to ignore the messages that she passes on. Either way, this has to be the most irresponsible behavior from a medical “professional.” I implore you, please do yourselves a favor and seek treatment elsewhere. No one deserves to feel how I feel nor how she made me feel. I was floored at her response to a patient clearly in dire need.

When I saw Dr. Rohaidy for the first time, she left a bad impression, and after several sessions with her, I've found that my first impression of her was indeed correct. 1. Appointments are rushed. My first appointment ever with her was only about ten minutes long, and I'm a patient with a complex psychiatric and medical history. In contrast, the psychiatrist I had before spent over an hour with me during the intake appointment. Subsequent appointments with Dr. Rohaidy ranged from one minute long (no exaggeration) to five minutes long. 2. She is inattentive. I told her during my very first appointment with her that I'd been diagnosed with PTSD by my psychologist and experience debilitating nightmares. She even included it in the medical chart. In a future session, I mentioned the nightmares and she acted as if she had never heard me mention them before. 3. She's dismissive. I told her about my panic attacks that can last for hours, and her reaction was, "Eh, that's not a big… deal." 4. She seems uninformed about her specialty and displays a startling lack of basic knowledge on psychiatric conditions. When I informed her of my history of anorexia nervosa, she didn't seem to be aware that anorexia has two subtypes (restricting subtype and binge-purge subtype). She also didn't seem to have knowledge regarding evidence-based treatments for eating disorders -- for example, she was unaware of Maudsley family-based therapy, the currently most empirically supported therapy for the treatment of anorexia nervosa in adolescents. She also displayed doubt regarding the validity of recovery from an eating disorder outside of a residential or inpatient setting.

Saw the doctor today for the first time and she took her time listing and answering questions. She showed genuine concern and compassion. Miami has a jewel in this doctor.
