Dr. Rafael Enrique Cuellar, MD

First I thought he was lecturing me, but then I realized that I was eating too much at the wrong times, overweight, stressed working a lot, not following his instructions, missing and canceling appointments taking space where others could be accommodated for an urgent visit. He took the time and courage to tell me that it was time to “grow up” and somehow I got the message. When I followed his plan, I got better. If you give him the opportunity to help you, he’ll try to do this. If you don’t; well, you will stay in the same hole where you started wondering who to blame ...again.

While waiting three months with another Doctor to get a colonoscopy I became frustrated with the delay. I contacted DR Cuellar and had the procedure done within three days. The bonus was I did not have to drive to San Diego at 5 am. Had it done by DR Cuellar in Carlsbad Surgery Center, a 5 minute drive from my home.

I accompanied my mother for a follow-up appointment after she had two procedures. Dr Cuellar ignored me, although we had never met. When I asked questions, he acted annoyed. At one point, although he had already admitted lack of expertise in one of my mother's conditions, he asked me if *I* was a nurse (not a doctor -- he demonstrated clearly that he's sexist). At the next appointment, he hadn't even bothered to get the test results, even though the appointment had been made for two weeks after the previous one for the precise purpose of allowing enough time to get the results. He was again rude and dismissive of concerns and questions. We will not be returning to this doctor.

I was happy to see Dr. Cuellar because he really showed interest in my care. I have to confess that at the beginning I felt intimidated with his knowledge, but then he convinced me that he really wanted to "train" me to care for myself a little better. I had been very stressed lately, my lifestyle had been somewhat erratic and he kindly but directly showed me I can learn to see myself as a real human being that is doing her best. He talks a lot but he is also a good listener.

I could go on and on, about Dr. Cuellar. I researched, checked everything there was to find, and chose him to be my Doctor. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. He saved my life! So STOP! Look no further and go with Dr. Cuuellar.

I have had a very good experience for the last two years with this doctor. My wife's relatives recommended him in a time when I was sick and could not get to my own physician, my appointment was quick and his treatment work for me. I was happy and kept him. I'm sure that if you give him the opportunity you will be satisfied, too.

What I liked is that I called and made me an appointment the same day. It was a Friday and I was bleeding a lot. He zapped my hemorrhoids stopping the bleeding immediately that afternoon and asked me to see him on Monday; when I saw him that Monday I was feeling better and very reassured. I needed a couple of more treatmnets and I am very satisfied with his care. I will definitely go back to him.
