Dr. Rahim Shafa, MD

Dr. Shafa is byfar the most rude, inconsiderate, unprofessional, condescending doctor I have ever had an interaction with.

After looking since 1992 for a psychopharmacologist close to home, I was referred to Dr. Shafa by my Neurologist. My 1st visit I expected to fill out paperwork and as I did, a very friendly, honest, young, drug addict opened up to me knowing we had absolutely nothing in common. He told me. "Shafa is worth the wait. What you get out of Dr. Shafa is what you put in." If you don't like what he says don't stay. All of my life, having a Rare Genetic Disorder I had MedStudents in the room. No Big Deal. Their Bonded as well. If I am not up to being seen by a student that day I don't see one. Move on. I came to Dr. Shafa with Vols of Paper work in hand and ready to start over. It's been 10yrs now with him and I have met many that have been with Dr. Shafa longer than 10yrs for whatever their reason. Dr. Shafa is a Great Doctor that is caring and takes his time with each of his Pts. He is also a great Teacher if you took the time to listen!

Dr. Shafa is the best he cares about his patients and listens. Unlike other psychiatrists he actually cares. He listens and he saved me from myself. Thank you Dr. Shafa.

I have known Dr. Shafa for over 20 years. He changed my life. Wait time is long in his office because he spends time with his patients. I don't mind the wait because I know I am getting good care.

Dr. Shafa prescribed me medication that gave me awful side effects, and I told him I wanted to take something else and he got upset and conveniently decided to tell me that I smell bad and look like I don’t take care of myself- completely out of context. Meanwhile he knows I have body dysmorphic and eating disorders. No disrespect to the student nurses there either, but it’s frustrating being treated like a medical experiment. Shafa talked about me to his students like I wasn’t even in the room. They all treated me like I was crazy and didn’t know what I was talking about when I did my own research on medications they wanted me on. He told me it’s my fault that my medication wasn’t working because I still had marijuana in my system, but I stopped smoking to be on that medication. Why would he prescribe it to me in the first place if I would need to go through a complete detox first? Not to mention the wait time is consistently awful, you WILL wait at least 2 hours for every appointment… unless you are the first patient of the day.

Dr. Shafa connects easily with his patients and spends a long time getting to know each patient. He cares about their progress and will spend as much time as needed. For this reason, he often runs late. He is very insightful and has lots of great experience as a provider including both inpatient and outpatient.

Was diagnosed with manic bi-polar and was put on so many drugs at inappropriate doses amounts grown 300 pound men would be on that I about 11 years later still have issues like hand tremors eyes twitches and shaking, major migraines, sleeping issues and more. When I was 18 I told him I needed to try and get off of the medications that made me gained almost 120 pounds, and was causing me so many issues that I needed to get off them he told me I would end up hurting myself if he took me off them! I eventually talked my parents into switching drs finally now that I was 18 and was able to decide my self and I've been fine off medications and rediagnosed with anxiety which he never even diagnosed me with.

Great experience!!! Felt comfortable, safe and good hands. Dr. Shafa had the best interest for myself and family!. I cant thank him enough!

For all those who complain and moan about the terribly long waiting times, well, you get what you wait for -- Rahim Shafa is a brilliant Dr. who spends as much time as needed with each patient, sometimes over an hour. Of COURSE this means long wait times - there are lots of patients! And yes, he does make a diagnosis very quickly, but he is spot on. This is part of his genius. The medicine regimen he prescribed changed my life, almost overnight. I am very proud to say he is my doctor and would STRONGLY recommend him to anyone struggling with life issues.
