Dr. R. Kumar Kadiyala, MD, PhD

I don’t usually write reviews for doctors because I feel that people often unfairly malign them for things they can't control, but I’m so unhappy with Dr. Kadiyala's care that I feel compelled to do so. I went to him for a mallet finger. I had been diagnosed in the ER and was given a splint there, but the ER doc suggested I go to an orthopedist to get a better split I could wear more comfortably for the 6-8 weeks it would take to straighten my finger. So, all I needed was a proper splint, which is what I told them when I made the appointment and when I saw the receptionist and when I saw the nurse. Nevertheless, Columbia Presbyterian insisted that I have a new set of X-rays (I told them there was no fracture as per the x-rays taken at the ER). After X-rays I waited quite a while and finally was brought in. The nurse tried to type information into the computer but she didn’t really know how to type so it took forever. Finally I saw Dr. Kadiyala. He looked at my x-ray and confirmed what… I already knew. He looked at my finger for a few seconds and told me I had a mallet finger. He then told me that it happens easily to people “like us” who are old (I’m in my 50s, but don’t care to be judged for my age). After the 1 minute visit, he told me someone would be with me shortly to give me a splint. Long story short, the OT gave me a custom splint and told me I would only have to pay $35 (they charged my insurance company hundreds and then billed me a little more when the company didn’t pay enough). Three and a half hours after I arrived, I left the hospital with a custom splint that didn’t work. It slid all over the place and didn’t keep my finger straight. On the next visit, he decided to cut up a regular splint (you know, the kind you get at the drug store) and rig with tape to sit on top of my finger. It was so painful, I had to move it to the bottom and it continued to slide around and not keep my finger straight. Finally I bought a different splint on Amazon that worked better, but not that well. On the third visit, when he again mentioned my being old, he looked at my finger which was only about 50% corrected and told me that’s as good as it’s going to get. I should wear yet another splint he would give me part time and wean myself off. When I saw the splint, I realized that was finally (about 8 weeks later) the right kind and I asked him why he didn’t give me that in the first place. He said he “probably didn’t have one to give me.” What, so instead of ordering the right splint or telling me to go online he has an expensive custom splint made that doesn’t work? He gave me one of the new splints that was clearly too small and said the next size up would be too big. It was incredibly painful squeezing my finger and sticking out really far because my finger wouldn’t go in all the way. So I went on Amazon again and found that exact splint for about 6 bucks and ordered a size up. I put a little paper towel around my finger so it fits snugly. Needless to say I have cancelled my next appointment and my finger is now about 90% better. I’ll wear this Amazon splint a little longer to see if I can get it to 100%. In any case, it’s a lot better than living with a skeevy, bent finger for the rest of my life as he wanted me to do (and never asked if I minded). Oh, and did I mention that he cancelled appointments on me three times?

Surgery with Dr. Kadiyala was a breeze. He is knowledgeable, calm and compassionate. His staff is also tops. We, his patients are lucky to have such a professional doctor. SUPER!!

Dr.K. Kadiyala was simply the best from the start. When i first met Dr. Kadiyala he was patient and courteous from then he explained the results from my previous tests. He explained all of my options concerning my K tunnel syndrome and what would be performed. After that first interaction i was put at ease by him that i just decided to schedule the surgery immediately. Each time that i have visited him and his staff words can't express how i appreciate his entire team that works with him making me feel like a human being. As he stated to me now i'm one of his patients for life and i'm proud to be in his family.

Dr. Kadiyala performed surgery on my wrist for a fracture. I especially appreciated the face that I was able to get an appointment so quickly after my accident. The surgery went well and now, four months later, I am fully recovered.

The care he provides is exceptional! Staff is extremely competent and friendly -- highly recommended!!!

Dr Kadiyala is excellent Dr he explain everything he was doing for my son he always has smile on his face, his staff is wonderful. I had no problem getting appointment his office always easy to get in contact with and very helpful.

Dr. Kadiyala is a really great doctor. He is very personable, really listens to you and offers very clear advice and explanations. He has helped me with a Trigger Finger and offered me a treatment that avoided more significant surgery.

I am pleased to offer the highest praise for Dr. Kadiyala! It's too bad you only offer 5 stars - he's a "10" in my book! And I wish he worked with more body bones! ...I've got bad feet! Extremely pleasant, easy to talk to, and he looks at you while listens to you. I say this as all too many Dr.'s must now look at the computer screen while they're entering info on a computer. He and his staff were extremely friendly and prompt with appointments. I required arthroscopic surgery and it took place at the Allen Pavilion (my first time there.) Kudos too, to the anesthesiologist who understood my history of slow return from general anesthesia so he used a combo of block on my arm and gentle anesthesia so I woke up after surgery with clear headed and no grogginess. I would highly recommend Dr. Kadiyala to friends and family.

Dr. Kadiyala is such a knowledgeable and caring Doctor. He puts you right at ease and explains everything in a way you totally understand.
