Dr. Rajiv Saxena, MD

In 2004 I was referred to Dr Saxena when a blood test revealed rising ALT and AST levels (final number before treatment was 1280, should be less than 40). After lots of bloodwork, I was diagnosed with auto immune hepatitis. Dr Saxena started me on prednisone and azathioprine. He told me that it was unlikely that I would ever have normal levels but that he would consider it a success if I went down to 100 (should be less than 40). But in 6 months, my levels were normal again. I was taken off prednisone and remained on Azathioprine for another year, with frequent blood work to monitor my numbers. The numbers stayed in normal range. After a year I was off both medications. To date in 2021, I have not had a high reading. Dr Saxena was professional and pleasant, and he seemed genuinely concerned and excited about my progress during my treatment.
