Dr. Ralph Williams Aye, MD

I had Dr Aye do an esophagectomy in 2005. I was having trouble breathing after the surgery and had jogged for 20 years. They had me blow in a machine every day thinking it was because I was out of shape I guess. After going home I was having trouble with my feeding tube and not being able to still breath very well. I woke up after the first nite and had fluid gushing out from a hole under my arm pit. Soaked 2 bath towels and called him and he said just let it drain out. After it did I was partially breathing out of the hole in my side. Next nite I woke up and could hardly breath so my wife called 911 and they came and said it didn't look good and to go to Good Sam in Puyallup near me. Found out one lung collapsed and the other one partially and had to have surgery to fix them and was sent back to Swedish. After about an hour I passed out and had an embolism and had to have emergency surgery to put a filter in my vein. He had nicked my lungs during the surgery. Had to spend 2 more weeks… in the hospital My wife kept telling him that my feeding tube didn't look right as she is an RN but he said don't worry about it. Finally had it checked and it had bile and stool in it. I was so sick after all this I was going to go on hospice cause I thought I was going to die. I was not able to eat for a few months and was vomiting every other day and I would wake up with bile coming up and going into my lungs. So I had to get a test to see if my lungs were OK. At that point I had lost 40 lbs. After about 6 months of dealing with all this I went back to see if he could tell me anything I could do to help with all the complications and was pretty much told to buck up and deal with it. He seemed like he was angry that I had the nerve to even come in and ask him anything. He was very short with me. I walked out astounded that after screwing me up so badly that he would treat me this way and vowed to never go back to him again. I was finally diagnosed with Crohn's disease which I believe was caused by all the antibiotics I had to endure during all the hospitalizations. I am 14 years out and have had the same issues ever since and am now going to have to have surgery to remove the scar tissue from the feeding tube that was compromised because I keep having recurring bowel obstructions since the surgery. He never even ever called or sent a note or an email to follow up see how I was doing. No compassion at all. Good luck.

Dr Aye did an acid reflux surgery on me in 2004 a year and a half later I started becoming sick with a lot of abdominal pain,when I asked him about it be said it was a mystery to him. from 2006 to 2008 i was in the emergency about twice a week for pain and vomiting,I ended up giving myself a hiatalhernia and required an additional surgery,that's when they discovered that my Vegas nerve had been severed during my previous surgery by Dr Aye. He lied to me! I have lost everything do to this botched sugery. I have lost my business my home and my wife. I have been mostly bed ridden for the last 13 years. When the pain and sickness started in 2006 i was put on large doses of ,opioid and told i would be on them twe rest of my life. So what happens? They take me off of them after 12 years cold ,nothing to ween me off. It took almost a year to get over a nightmare of a withdrawal. Anyway I am back to the emergency room visits on a regular basis. What I'm saying is that Dr Aye ruined my life… and lied about it. I am now starting the whole process over again with no end in sight. I am sure he is a good doctor in general but has his moments. Is the fact that he blatantly lied to me knowing full well what he did. By the way the surgery that revealed the severed nerve was done at ohsu I in portland Oregon by Dr Hunter. I am now on state assistance and am living in low income senior housing,what a wonderful rest of my ruined life I have to look forward to you want to inspect any of this my name is Steve Balke.

Dr Aye has a great bedside manner! Professional, yet fun. He is an excellent surgeon!

Dr. Ralph Aye fixed my acid reflux using a Nissan-Hill hybrid surgery about 4 years ago, and it was tremendously successful. I now have no reflux, even if I eat right before going to bed.

I felt that he was very understanding about my condition and spent plenty of time explaining the surgery and the amount of time to physically recoup. I feel I received wonderful care from both the staff and Dr. aye.
