Dr. Ralph Patrick Tufano, MD

My surgery for parathyroid removal was a breeze. My initial visit informed me of what the problem was and how it would be corrected. Dr. Tufano ordered some bloodwork and other labs to be done to confirm his findings. Day of surgery was so easy at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, staff there were excellent and took me through the whole procedure with great care, right down to valet service! Dr. Tufano said I would have a small scar that would blend right into my neck creases. It is almost invisible at 4 weeks, (he should have been a cosmetic surgeon) I feel great and have only slight tightness in my neck area that should lessen with time. I would recommend Dr. Tufano to anyone needing his assistance, he can be trusted to do a great job!

You won’t find a better thyroid doctor than Dr. Tufano. He and his clinical staff (a special shout-out to Liz, Renata, and Mike) are the absolute best. I consider myself a research queen, especially when it comes to finding the right doctors. When I scheduled my first appointment with Dr. Tufano, I felt confident I was making an informed decision. After that appointment, I knew 110% he was the right choice! Dr. Tufano takes the time to go over all your options, explaining the pros and cons in terms that anyone without a medical background can easily understand. When it came time for my procedure, I was surprisingly calm, which I credit to his reassuring demeanor and the kindness of his staff. They were incredibly supportive throughout the entire process. Everything went smoothly, and I am thrilled with the results so far. A quick Google search will show you that Dr. Tufano is truly the best of the best. If you’re feeling nervous, scared, or torn between him and another doctor, let me… save you the trouble, he’s your guy! He saved my thyroid, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Anyone in northern VA or DC diagnosed with thyroid cancer should take the drive to Baltimore to see Dr. Tufano because he offers the most skilled, informed, and personalized treatment available. I live in northern VA and initially sought treatment in DC, but I could not find anything near the quality of care he and Johns Hopkins provided. Dr. Tufano meticulously reviewed my case and presented the pros and cons of a total versus partial thyroidectomy. During our first visit, he even took time to do ultrasound imaging of my thyroid and lymph nodes himself! Importantly, he demonstrated that he stays current on the latest medical research and American Thyroid Association guidelines, which directly related to the extent of surgery required for my case. I could not be more satisfied with the partial thyroidectomy he performed and our plan to actively monitor the remaining lobe; I consider my choice to go the extra distance to see Dr. Tufano the best health decision I have made to date.

We saw Dr. Tufano for my husband's thyroid issue and he was just awesome! He took the time to talk to us, examine thoroughly, discuss various options and was very up-to-date with current research findings. We were relaxed and at ease during the entire consult and we left from there with so much of satisfaction and confidence.

I feel so blessed to have found him and to have been in such good hands during my surgery. He had a wealth of knowledge, he’s kind, humble, and just a great human being in every way.

Dr. Tufano is a master surgeon and an excellent physician. I had a successful thyroid lobectomy and isthmectomy required for a cystic lesion exhibiting pathological features of PTC and Hashimoto Thyroiditis. Specific lymph nodes were removed to confirm or deny any potential micro-carcinoma spread. With careful consideration for my RLN and SLN using intermittent nerve monitoring during surgery, I did not develop any complications of dysphonia or temporary/permanent damage. I have made a full recovery thanks to his approach and expertise!

Beyond my expectations. It would be hard to improve on perfection.
