Dr. Raman N Nambisan, MD

I went in for surgery to remove the lymph nodes in the left axilla (armpit) due to metastatic melanoma. When I awoke after surgery, I was informed by family that the doctor had removed a majority of my left pectoralis minor, the entire lower portion of my chest muscle. Eventually when Dr. Nambisan visited me in recovery, I asked him why he had to remove the chest muscle. He said that he found more affected lymph nodes going up towards the clavicle, and the chest muscle was "in the way" of removing them, since he was coming up from an incision in the armpit. I asked why not cut at the clavicle and approach from above the chest muscle, and he answered that that would have been a separate surgical procedure, and would have required re-scheduling for another time. I asked would that not have been better than removing healthy tissue? His eyes averted and he said that the chest muscle was also "matted-looking", a medical term I could find no information on. Afterwards I requested the… pathology report of the tissue they removed; it included the lymph nodes and the fatty part of the axilla, but no mention of the "matted" chest muscle removed. After that visit in recovery, all my follow-up visits were with his associates. He apparently did not want to be asked further questions regarding "doing no harm". His associate who attended him in the surgery, during a follow-up inspection of the wound, stated "Dr. Nambisan was much more aggressive than I would have been". At the time I thought he meant that as a complement, but have since realized he disagreed with Nambisan's decision to remove healthy chest muscle. Because Dr. Nambisan did not want to schedule another surgical procedure to remove the higher-up lymph nodes, I am left with a huge deficit in my upper body for the rest of my life. I never take my shirt off in public and avoid activities like swimming. I am happy that he was able to remove all the cancerous lymph nodes, but I am absolutely positive this could have been done while also saving the chest muscle.

After bi-lateral hernia surgery by Raman one hernia came back the next day - the other 2 years later. Drs are like anyone else some are just better than others... Do your due diligence there are lots of good Drs but just because they're surgeons doesn't mean they can do your needed procedure.

Dr. Nambisan did not prescribe antibiotics to me after my surgery and I developed a horrible staph infection that left me sick in bed and in tremendous pain for months. Dr. Nambisan did not pick up on the severity of my condition and took way too long to diagnosis. I suffered terribly with a condition that should never have happened in the first place. I would highly NOT recommend this physician.

Dr. Nambisan is an informed, knowledgeable professional. He is a kind and considerate doctor as well as personable in his manner.

I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and was referred to Dr. Nambisan for surgery. I am so grateful to Dr. Nambisan for helping me thru such an emotional time. He took the time to explain everything to me and my family before and after surgery. I would definitely recommend him to anyone that needs surgery for breast cancer. He is extremely knowledgable.

I WAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER. I HAD ALWAY THOUGHT MYSELF TO BE EXTREMLY HEALTHY UNTIL THIS OCCURED. MY GYN HAD REFERRED ME TO DR. NAMBISAN BUT I KNEW NOTHING OF HIM SO NATURALLY I WAS TERRIFIED. I CANNOT BEGIN TO TELL YOU THE RELIEF I FELT JUST AFTER MY FIRST VISIT. I USED TO WORK IN A HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT AND KNEW JUST HOW INSENSTIVE SOME DOCTORS COULD BE AND WAS SO GLAD THAT THIS DID NOT APPLY TO DR. NAMBISAN. IN FACT HE WAS MORE THAN I COULD OF HOPED OR PRAYED FOR AND PRAY I DID. HE WAS SO PATIENT AND KIND AND TOOK EXTRA TIME TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING IN DETAIL TO NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT MY HUSBAND AND DAUGHTER. I HAD INTISIPATED ON GETTING A SECOND OPINION BUT AFTER MEETING HIM I FELT I WAS IN THE BEST HANDS I COULD POSSIBLY BE IN.SO FAR MY DIAGNOSIS HAS BEEN GOOD BUT EVEN IF IT HAD NOT I WOULD STILL BE FOREVER GREATEFUL TO HIM AND HIS WONDERFUL ATTENTIVE STAFF. I had great experience with Dr. Nambisan. He is pleasant and courteous and he diagnosed my problem promptly. I am cured of my cancer because of him . I would certainly go back to him for any surgical problem.
