Whatever you do don't ask him questions or expect a call back from him or his staff because he gets really angry. If your family members ask questions he feels threatened and retaliates by threatening to discharging the patient. How can you live with yourself by not answering simple questions about a family member and your patient who is dying and needs a life saving liver transplant. Or better yet, manipulate the situation by asking the patient if they think he is doing a good job or if they trust him. Then gives an ultimatum to the dying patient, if your family doesn't stop calling and emailing me I'm going to discharge you from my practice because this is hurting my feelings. Dr. Merriman claims to be a teacher but he can't answer questions. Sad, really sad.

He always recommends his patients to have transplant which is NOT necessary, he doesn't care about the high risks his patients may have after receive transplant. Every appointment with him, less than 5 minutes, he just opened his office door and let you know he's busy before we finished the questions, he billed $400 for 5 minutes appointment. He might be technical, but he doesn't truly care about his patients, everything seems money driven.

Dr. Merriman is a doctor who combines compassion with straight talk. My husband just received a liver and Dr. Merriman was very clear as to how my husband needed to participate to receive a liver. When he got one, his follow up care has been superb. It has been a rough journey but the care given by so many at CPMC and particularly Dr. Merriman has gotten both of us through it. We are forever grateful.

Dr. Merriman guided us through the process of getting a life saving liver transplant. He was such a genuinely kind, compassionate physician. We are forever grateful for his strong advocacy and gentle nature.

Excellent doctor - would highly recommend

Dr. Merriman went back to Ireland last year (though I hear he is coming back), which really bummed me out. When I find a doctor this good, I want to keep him forever. He is smart, pleasant, exceptionally organized, and very good at managing my complex care. Unlike many specialists, he knows a lot about other specialties. I have multiple serious problems and appreciate a doctor who understands that I am not just a diseased liver. He's not going to hug you and tell you you're going to be just fine if you're not, but he's concerned and helpful and genuinely nice, which matters more. I always looked forward to my appointments with him (unlike some of my other doctors). If you want a hug and reassurances go somewhere else, but if you want up-to-date, thorough care, Dr. Merriman is your guy.

Precise accurate diagnosis, empathetic, doesn't do unnecessary tests and most importantly , he really cares about patients

I've seen Dr. Merriman several times and completed the liver transplant evaluation. He takes the time to give you all the information in a sensitive yet straightforward manner. He is a highly respected physician and I appreciate all that he is doing for me.

No Bedside manner, rude and condescending, has a very aloof attitude.Badly in need of some patient sensitivity training!!
