Dr. Raquel Pelayo, MD

I had an ob gyn appointment with Raquel today at the Kaiser in Irvine because my regular OB was not available. She was rude and short from the beginning. No bedside manner WHATSOEVER. The ultrasound was like 30 seconds long. She didn’t provide an ultrasound picture. We had a discussion about a separate issue I’ve been having and not once did she tell me or say anything about the current ultrasound so when she asked me if I had any questions, I asked her how was the baby and she says, “Baby is fine. You saw the ultrasound right?” Like wth?! who speaks like that to a patient? That was just one example of her short and abrasive demeanor. The two 5 star reviews must be friends or family because something is wrong with this lady. Very apathetic. My experience was consistent with the majority of her reviews. Should have looked her up before and cancelled the appointment. If you get her, do your best to avoid her and reschedule with anyone else. I would’ve been better off not having an… appointment at all.

The worst case of verbal abuse I’ve witnessed in my years as a doula. Forced unmedicated client on her back for pushing and repeatedly told her to be quiet and stop pushing (physically impossible when unmedicated). Didn’t honor family’s wishes for delayed cord clamping and used a multitude of interventions with no discussion or consent. Bullied me and threatened to report me for doing my job (well). Made insensitive joke after birth. This woman has no understanding of normal physiological birth without medication, has control issues, and lacks sensitivity. If she comes into your room, request another physician.
