Dr. Rashid Shafiq, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Rashid Shafiq for several years. From my very first appointment, I realized how superior he is as a medical professional. Since he is qualified in multiple medical areas, he is so capable. The Office Staff is very polite and helpful. I have always been able to get appointments quickly, and very little waiting in the office. Have even been able to reach Dr Shafiq by phone, and get prompt attention. As an aside, he is also extremely educated and a very interesting person.

I can't say enough good things about this Dr. I had a horrible case of post Covid Pneumonia. He was able to see me quickly, spent a lot of time with me, put me on a plan. One week later I am much better. Went in for a follow up today, again he spent a lot of time with me and laid out a plan for the next 4 weeks. He is really a great Dr.

The rudest person I have ever met. Wondering if he could practice as a doctor with this kind of rudeness?

Dr. Shafiq is heartless, pretty much sadist. My husband “inherited” him when was moved to Baylor Scott & White Rehab in Frisco after stroke. Had I known that he would be my husband’s pulmonologist, we would be running. But once we were admitted, we had no choice. My husband had a tracheostomy a month earlier and had a perfect fenestrated trach that allowed him to breathe, talk, control secretions. When he came to the Rehab, Dr. Shafiq changed it to a regular trach which made my husband’s life absolute torture. No matter how many times I asked to change it to the fenestrated one, explaining that he handled it great and he should get it back, he flat out refused. His explanation? There is a risk of potential granuloma. Why would we care about something potential down the road when he is miserable right at this moment, which means we need to do something now! In two weeks he showed up once on the first day and never again. Dr. Shafiq should’ve taken my husband to the hospital across… the street, if he didn’t want to do it at the Rehab, do bronchoscopy and change it to fenestrated trach. He is supposed to do no harm. Every night, to the very last night at the Rehab, I was watching my husband choke, cough, chest vibrate, suctioned every 5 minutes and I all I could think about was Dr. Shafiq and his sadism. People kept asking me “what does the pulmonologist say?”....I kept responding “he says nothing, he shoved a trach in his throat and could careless how much suffering goes on”. We have been discharged few days ago and my husband is still miserable, he hasn’t slept in so many nights from gurgling, coughing and chocking that he looks like a zombie, and I with him. I called two other pulmonologists and explained our situation. Explained how we were butchered by one sadistic pulmonologist who was too lazy or stubborn to change the tube to the one that we asked, at least give it a shot and see if my husband feels better. The doctors told me that the holes in the fenestrated is the biggest reason that breathing and secretions are controlled better, not to mention better voice and that’s why it’s handled easier by many people. Maybe Dr. Shafiq treats his office visiting patients better and his Rehab patients are just his sidekick job, but he needs to know that his cruelty and not giving a sh***t attitude made my husband’s life pure torture. I will never forget what he did and will do whatever I can to stop as many people as I can from being treated by him. Dr. Shafiq is heartless, pretty much sadist. Talk about - Excellence in executing end to end patient experience of the highest standards. Here is what I really mean... from the time you call, the welcome voice of the front office of the clinic making your appointment, flexibility to choose the time of the appointment beyond the office hours just to fit my preference, to the quick 5 min check-in upon arrival & then a truly caring experience of time spent with Dr. Shafiq where he made me very comfortable, shared the details of my care in absolutely no rush environment going well past his office hours and even answered all my questions & then some. All in all - it was a great experience worth sharing with all of you. It will be a miss if I did not mention that the cardiologist that referred me to this office is Dr. Fayak Kamili.

He's a nice Doctor but his staff is very undesirable, hangs up on patience, lies to patience, won't return phone messages. Does not follow through with sending prescriptions. Has yelled at patience and refused to make appointment to see the doctor. All in all I would say save yourself a lot of frustration and find another pulmonary doctor who doesn't employ incompetent staff.

Kelly actually argued to the point of yelling at me that she has worked for this doctor for 18 years and that FMLA is for insurance coverage. She would not book an appt for me. My current doctor's staff can't seem to fill out prescriptions or call people back so I called Dr. Shafiq to make an appt and Kelly argued with me about what FMLA was and said the doctor probably would not see me, even though I have a Solitary Fibrous Pleural Tumor. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides certain employees with up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave per year. It also requires that their group health benefits be maintained during the leave.
