Dr. Rashmi Tomar, MD

I went through a bunch of changes to make an appointment with Dr. Tomar, because my previous endocrinologist stopped accepting Tricare, and my prescriptions were going to expire soon. In the weeks leading up to the appointment, my father passed away. With everything I had going on, I forgot the appointment, but was counting on the reminder that most Dr office's give days or even a week before the appointment, to let me know when the appointment was. That call NEVER CAME! When I called the office to ask when the appointment was, they told me the appointment passed already. I asked why I didn't get a reminder call, and I was told that in the system it said a voicemail was left. THAT WAS AN UTTER AND COMPLETE LIE!! THERE WAS NO VOICEMAIL AND NO RECORD OF THEM CALLING MY PHONE (my T-mobile bill proves they… never called too). I explained my situation and the lady making appointments, went to speak to the medical assistant to ask if anything could be done. The medical assistant said no, and that I would have to get the next available appointment in May. (Remember, my prescriptions have no refills at this point and I can't afford to buy my diabetic supplies without a prescription because insurance won't pay). I asked the lady to make the appointment and expressed that I thought it was messed up that I had to suffer because someone didn't do their job. I didn't scream at the woman, but I get the feeling her fragility couldn't handle the fact that I was upset and expressing it, because today, Dr. Tomar herself called me, and asked if I was upset at her office. I told her I wasn't, I was just upset in general, and I attempted to explain to her all of the factors that lead to this. She pretty much told me she didn't care, she didn't like the way I spoke to her staff, said she "didn't have a good feeling about this" and that I have to find another doctor. I pled with her and told her that I would have no prescriptions and there is no other endocrinologist within an hour of where I stay, and that I wasn't speaking rudely to her staff. She dryly repeated that I need to find another doctor. Doctor's should have compassion and this woman doesn't. She refused me healthcare, because she didn't like my tone, and though our interaction was over the phone, I believe she knew what my race is, and she adjusted her compassion output accordingly. I'm a diabetic, which means I die without my medication and Dr. Tomar knows that, but it meant nothing to her need medical attention, because she "has a bad feeling about this". In her oath as a doctor, she swears to do no harm, and she knows that denying a diabetic healthcare, can be a death sentence, but she will if she doesn't like what you say to her or her staff. No matter how you say it. Don't make appointments at this office. You'll just end up changing your referral, which can get tricky, and she knows that too.

I had my first visit with Dr. Rashmi Tomar today. I was a little concerned about my pending visit based on some reviews that I read. Fortunately, I am happy to report that after my visit, I am very pleased. I found the office staff to be excellent although some were a little too serious, as I like a little banter and conversation, but that is just me. Nothing unprofessional or out of the way, just all business with little chatting. Dr. Tomar was running a little behind but that is to be expected if you have a doctor that takes the time to listen to their patients. At no time did I feel rushed while Dr. Tomar was with me. She initially came in, introduced herself and reviewed all of the documents that my PCP had sent over instead of relying on me to tell her. Once complete she started asking questions to get the additional information she needed. We reviewed each of my issues one by one addressing them all. She welcomed the 'number history' available on my tracker and took the time to… review it. One by one we determined how we were going to proceed to improve my health. I threw a kink in her plans as I will be without insurance soon. Unfortunately, the medications that would be the best course of action for me are extremely expensive so Dr. Tomar immediately switched to plan B for me, with no hesitation. I found Dr. Rashmi Tomar to be very pleasant and knowledgeable. Although the waiting room was full, I felt like I was her only patient while she worked with me. I will not hesitate to go back as needed. Thank you Dr. Rashmi Tomar and the office staff!

Had an appointment at 10 am, after waiting 30 minutes past, asked receptionist how much longer. She said "it could be another 15 or 30 minutes. The doctor likes to take time with each patient." That is comforting to know that she takes time with the patient, but then don't schedule appointments so close together. I am a new patient and the first impression is everything, especially if you want referrals.
