Raul Varela, M.D. is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases of the joints, muscles and bones. Dr. Varela received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans and his Medical Degree from the University of Panama Medical School in Panama City. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Touro Infirmary at Tulane University and a Fellowship in Rheumatology at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. Dr. Varela is very thorough in each visit. Always addresses each & every ache or pain. Nurses are very friendly & thorough!

Unfortunately, I didn't actually get to see Dr. Varela. After a visit with my GP they tried to refer me to him because on the websites here online I've visited about him said he specializes in Fibromyalgia and takes Cigna insurance, but he doesn't and in fact told the nurse that tried to set up the appt. for me that he doesn't even see patients with FMS. Very disappointed about that. However, I'm sure he is great with other problems.

My sister had been going to you for several years before I began experiencing the pain she has. She has had nothing but the best to say. I now agree with her. You have been very kind and understanding where my own PCP has only put very little care towards my problem. I have hurt so bad for so long and finaly I have someone who will listen. Thankyou so much.
