Dr. Ravi Kumar Desai, MD

"I am not a patient of Dr Ravi Desai. I am a former resident at the Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo New York where I worked for three years. Dr Desai was one of the attendings at the ICU where we used to do rotations. He is by far, one of the most hateful and abusive attendings we ever had to work with. He would repeatedly insult residents on their face and even threaten physical violence against them. In one incident, a patient admitted to the ICU had mental status changes and I asked him if he wanted a CT scan of the brain He replied by saying '' MD stands for make decision and if you make a decision I don't like I will shoot you''. Such threats of physical violence against residents and staff were reported by multiple staff. In addition, there were incidents when patients admitted to the ICU had changes to their status and Dr Desai would become angry and belligerent at the staff simply for calling him after hours to update him on their condition, as they were required to do… so. As a result, many residents were insecure when working with Dr Desai because they were concerned about his bullying behaviour and felt working with him undermined the quality of the care they provided to their patients with him. He was a threatening workplace bully, at least he was back in 2007 when I had the misfortune of working with him, even if it was for a few days only. People being treated by him or working with him should be aware of his abusive tendencies. "
