Very disappointing experience. My husband waited months for an appointment due to positive autoimmune markers. The appointment was set for a Friday morning. The day before, he informed the nurse that he was experiencing severe cardiac issues and had a heart procedure scheduled for Monday. He expressed concern about being able to attend/travel safely. On the morning of the appointment, he called again, explaining his symptoms—shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness—and that it was unsafe to travel to the appointment. Despite this, he was told he could not cancel without being charged and that if he canceled, Dr. McLaughlin would refuse to see him in the future. While I understand the need for a cancellation policy, refusing care to a potential new patient during an active cardiac crisis is unacceptable. My husband was transparent and proactive, yet the office chose to punish him for prioritizing his immediate health. This shows a complete lack of compassion and medical judgement… and is a dangerous policy. In an area with limited rheumatology resources, this kind of behavior is appalling. If a provider cannot understand that a life-threatening heart condition is a valid reason to cancel, they should not be trusted with complex medical care.
