Dr. Shepherd has been my physician and also for my mother-in-law. He has gone the extra mile numerous times, responds to email and phone calls promptly. Arranged for oxygen for my mother-in-law while we were on vacation. We were told she would not be allowed on the plane to come home unless she had oxygen with her after she had shortness of breath on our plane going out west requiring the flight attendant to give her oxygen. He called promptly after our email, arranged for the supplier, sent the prescription and letter for the airline and had a follow up scheduled for her return. That is just one incident. His exams are always thorough, in fact my initial visit lasted an hour and a half so he could go through my extensive medical history.

I contacted Dr. Shepherd about my brother-in-law who is suffering from fibrosis secondary to his rheumatoid arthritis. Even though Dr. Shepherd did not know me or my brother-in-law, he helped guide us down the correct path. I am sure that Dr. Shepherd, like most of us, gets 100+ e-mails a day. He cares enough about patients, not only to check his e-mails, but to respond to them. We are most grateful for his help.

As an adult with severe asthma I have been very fortunate to have Dr. Ray W. Shepherd as my Pulmonologist. He almost always prompt. He spends just the right amount with his patients. He doesn't leave a stone unturned in getting to the bottom of a problem. Great bedside manner!

Took me 5 mos to get appt w/him while in VCU with lung lobectomy for 21 days. Referred to him by excellent surgeon for 2.5 yr violent cough, 9 nodules on right lung, 8 nodules on left. Gave me prescription for inhaler & OTC Flonase, said to come back in 2-3 months if not better!! Misdiagnosed for 17 yrs w/NH Malt Lymphoma. Took going to Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN to find out from Pulmonary & Critical Care I actually had Sarcoidosis!! Did Dr. Shephard miss some pulmonary courses?? Hard dry cough is first symptom of Sarcoidosis. Wouldn’t take a stray dog to him. He obviously couldn’t have cared less about my well being!

I have been seeing Dr. Shepherd for over 8 years. Wait time is never more than 15 mins. His staff are very courteous and keep patients up on any delays. Getting an appointment has always been easy, even when I have needed to see him urgently.
