Dr. Ray Minyard Van Metre, MD

I received a bill for over $300 out of pocket cost for my initial appointment. The allergy testing was going to cost me another $600. I can not afford to get my allergies treated at this office even with my Anthem insurance.

He is a very caring and thorough doctor.

Dr VanMetre has treated my son and I both for ear issues. He’s always thorough, willing to explain everything and address any questions or concerns I have for my treatment and my son’s.

A few months back, I went to see Dr. Van Metre for a couple of issues. The entire experience, still thinking about it, bothers me as though it happened yesterday. I reported the experience to his superiors - I've never done that with any doctor. When he walked into the room, I could tell right off the bat something wasn't right. He seemed put off. And when I described what I was experiencing and what I thought may be going on, he seemed very irritated and even indicated that there were holes in my hypothesis. That would be fine except he was rude about it. Plus his countenance and attitude made me feel as though I was wasting his time. And apparently I was, because he wrote the following in my patient notes "we spent a very long time discussing her odd concerns." Oh, and notice the "odd concerns" comment. There was a moment, although very brief, where he was ok (when he was looking at my throat). It didn't last. He wanted out of the room...didn't say goodbye or what the plan… was....Nothing! There was a young lady in the room who was taking notes on a laptop. She had to stop him. She needed to know (guess I needed to know as well) if he wanted me on a certain prescription. He did and was telling her as he was walking away. Then she left without saying anything. I was just sitting there, stunned and embarrassed. When I logged in to my patient portal the next day, his patient notes confirmed how he felt about me and my visit. I explained in my complaint letter that I was concerned how he would communicate to my primary care doctor and allergist (because he told me that he would contact them). Well, I went to my primary care doctor a couple of months later. I explained to her what happened. She read his notes he sent to her. She was shocked by what she read. I didn't ask what it stated...I didn't want to know!

I had an excellent first impression of and a good experience with my first ENT surgery by Dr. Van Metre. He biopsied and excised a mass via laser on a vocal cord. He and three pathologists went out of their way !to try to find the etiology of the mass. Also, I've had vocal cord issues for five years and have been laryngoscoped and scoped and scoped. Dr. Van Metre iis the only person who has scoped me without me gagging, he's really gentle with the laryngoscope. My experience thusfar has been very positive.

Overall bad experience at KY Ent and Dr. Van Metre. First the office was very busy and felt rushed the whole time. Dr. Van Metre didn't really address all my questions and keep pushing surgery as my only option. Seemed like he just wanted to get to the next room. Finally I received a bill weeks later for $300 for something that was not even discussed that was completely routine. When I called to ask about it was pushed off to another department and given the explaination that I should have known. I would look elsewhere.
