Amazing, this in depth comprehensive exam is rare in the current rushed 2' appt. he spent his time thoroughly examine me from the top of my head to the tips of my toes...

I mentioned that I have been on a sunlight regiment for 12 years and he blew me off and stated that we don't use sunlight for treatment of psoriatic arthritis. He needs to understand modern medicine and the new treatments for psoriatic arthritis.

After spending about 5 minutes with me, he abruptly left the room, returned with a pamphlet and handed it to me. He asked me if I know what scleroderma is; when I answered "Yes, why do you ask" he said, "Because that's what you have" and left the room. Scleroderma is a serious autoimmune disease which is frequently fatal. I was terrified and crying when his nurse came in to check me out and make a follow up appointment. I did a great deal of research on the disease and realized he'd made this diagnosis without doing any tests. At my next appointment, I tried to ask him how he determined my diagnosis when he'd not done any of the usual tests. He became very defensive and stormed from the room. I left angry and confused and visibly upset. His nurse stopped me, pulled me back into the exam room and told me there were other rheumatologists in the area and that this doctor had "quite a few patients with the same diagnosis". In other words, she was suggesting I get a second… opinion which I did. I do not have scleroderma and probably most of his patients do either (since it is relative rare.) The man was deliberately misdiagnosing patients to keep them coming back for appointments to fraudulently obtain money from their insurance companies. He is a despicable human being and a disgrace to the medical profession.

Rushed the appointment (I was told it would be a full 45minute new patient appointment but it lasted under 30 minutes). When asking me to describe symptoms quickly said "Any problems with this, this, this, this..." and made it difficult to list my presenting concerns. Did not describe any of his physical exam process or observations to me, and brushed aside questions when I asked about them. Disregarded family history of immune diseases. Did not detect a blatantly obvious enlargement in my abdomen. By end of appointment said he did not know what the issue was and was going to run a slew of blood tests without explaining what any of them were for, and did not order any x-rays or scans of any kind despite relevant concerns. Did not explain any potential reasons at all for any of my symptoms and generally seemed disinterested in helping me with my problem. Seems like he is only there to treat standard osteoporosis in the elderly and has no passion for solving more complex cases. Will be… making a follow-up appointment with a different doctor.

I found his cheerfulness while giving the news that there is nothing he could do for me and that I have to just learn to live with my FM pain quite off-putting. If you have FM - don't bother. You'll be wasting your money.
