Dr. Rena Chase Fortier, MD

Waited an hour - inquired as to the wait and was told it would be another 30 min - in 30 min brought into exam room - waited another 15 min in room. Upon arrival in room Dr Fortier said unapologetically “sorry for the wait”. I asked if this was always how the office functioned and she said no, not always. She proceeded to “examine” my son from 5 feet away and not offer any help. Then she said the “only” medication that would help his eczema was not covered by our insurance but that most cover it so it must be our plan. Then she offered allergy testing that was already done. She left and then put her head back in and said that the staff told her that most insurances don’t cover the medicine she recommended. No other solution or care offered. When asked when we want to schedule another appt I said never and left. Horrible uncaring useless staff and doctor. Believe all the bad reviews. I wish I read them before wasting our time with Dr Fortier.

I met Dr. Fortier approximately 28 years ago . I had been seeing a dermatologist in Poughkeepsie for several years. When she came into the room that day I was disappointed that I wasn’t going to see my usual doctor. In the first five minutes of my appointment she noticed my many freckles that are about my body . I brushed it off saying, “I’ve always had a million freckles .” I reluctantly agreed to have a full body check . She biopsied two freckles or so I thought they were . They both came back as melanoma skin cancer . The most deadly skin cancer you can get . Not only did she find them but she did this surgery to remove them . I often thought what would’ve happened if she had never been my doctor that day . My regular dermatologist who had seen me for years never thought to look at any of my freckles . I now trust no other dermatologist but Dr. Rena Fortier . I live not far from Poughkeepsie and travel all the way to Stanford Connecticut to see her every year . … I thank you and my family thanks you Dr Fortier. Sandy

I would tell family or friends about Dr. Fortier. She is a great Doctor. She is able to diagnose skin problems very well. She certainly does a lot to follow-up the care that she has given you. Dr. Fortier is a wonderful Doctor.

It's true that you will probably have to wait for your appointment. I bring a book or an ipad and often call ahead to find out how the scheduling is going that day. Some days are better than others. But, I have been to many dermatologists over the years and she is by far the best. Very compassionate, thorough, smart, takes all the time you need (which is probably why she gets backed up!), and equally competent about both the medical and cosmetic sides of the field. She caught a very early melanoma in my husband, since her priority does seem to be the medical health of her patients. And as for the cosmetic side, she offers help without over-hyping. I feel that I can discuss all the "miracle lasers" out there and get a truly honest, candid opinion about their track records, costs, benefits, etc. - , which are worth it and which are probably not.

Waited almost an hour in two appointments. No one should wait for such a long time. She didn't seem very nice to me. It's one of those "let's cram as much patients as possible and make them wait." Not going back.

Dr. Fortier is very good. Her talent with injections is like art work. She's nice and gentle as well.

Spent my whole lunch hour there just to get a prescription but was forced to leave because my lunch hour was up and the doctor hadn't seen me. The desk staff could not have cared less.

She is so talented and gentle...I would not let anyone else touch my face!

Extremely thorough doctor with a friendly, professional bedside manner. I have recommended Dr. Fortier to many friends and I send my daughter to her, as well. Friendly office staff and a clean, cheerful atmosphere.
