Dr. Renee Mcdonough, MD

I had her as my PCP for about 6 months; I wanted a Penn Medicine PCP. I was disappointed from the start but she specializes in Geriatrics so I decided to give her benefit of the doubt. Overall...shows care but abrupt, curt, not progressive at all, dogmatic and changes opinion and diagnosis to fit the moment. Practice is not what I prefer; if sick, want to see a Dr...this practice needs her 'permission' to schedule with another Dr. ...debated about leaving due to my former PCP being with Main Line Health but I have no other Dr.. in MLH system. Overall, poor experience with her and the appointment staff that can be rude, obnoxious and uncaring when I was ill, in pain and troubled.

Dr. McDonough is the best doctor I have had. She is very knowledgeable and caring. She is a great listener and a great communicator. The staff is friendly and efficient.

She is one of the best pediatricians in east coast

Dr. McDonough and her entire staff and colleagues are very professional and friendly. Extremely knowledgeable. Never a wait more than 5 minutes. They spend as much time with you as needed. Best group of medical personnel I have ever experienced. I highly recommend them.

Dr. McDonough has to be one of the worst doctors with whom I have ever had the misfortune of encountering. Rockwood Family Medical has to be one of the worst practices with which I have ever had the misfortune of encountering as well. First, Dr. McDonough lacks basic knowledge and seems to have trouble recognizing problems and issues that a decent doctor should be able to recognize relatively easily and quickly (another doctor recognised my problem in the very first visit). Furthermore, Dr. McDonough is completely irresponsible about calling her patients back when they call her with questions or problems (for me this led to my becoming very ill because she simply refused to call me back); rather, she let her incompetent 'medical assistants' deal with me. And speaking of the so-called medical assistants, the staff at Rockwood Family Medicine is horrible and perhaps part of the underlying reason that Dr. McDonough can not properly treat her patients. First, when I called with a… complication arising from a treatment for pneumonia, the medical assitant with whom I spoke did not give Dr. McDonough the entire message and, so, Dr. McDonough had the medical assistant call me back with erroneous advice that made me more ill and could have been very dangerous. But, really, should not the doctor herself have returned my call at some point? Would not that have prevented such a dangerous breakdown of communication? When I pointed that out to her she responded that she doesn;t have time to call patients back and she acted like this was a completely unreasonable expectation! All of my other doctors do this, e.g., my children's pediatrician, my ob-gyn doctor, my optomologist. So, I took the medical assistant's advice and did not get any better (and was in fact suffering from a very serious infection). Then, a week later, when I begged to either talk to the doctor herself or be seen, her assistant called me back set up an appointment for two days later and then did not put the appointment in the computer so that when I showed up for the appointment the doctor was not expecting me. Fortunately, I insisted on being seen by the doctor (I had to threaten her with the fact that she has an ethical oath to treat and protect her patients, though) and was seen. Incidently, when I walked in to the office for my appointment the 'medical assistant' (who told me she is a supervisor at the practice) was yelling at some poor patient on the phone, banging her fist on her desk, and rolling her eyes at me in exasperation (apparently, they treat patients other than myself as poorly as they treated me). When I was leaving the appointment, I asked to have my medical records released to me because I plan to go to another practice as my experience with Dr. McDonough was so horrible. I was told that the office would not release my medical records to me - only to another practice. Ummm, hello, HIPPA violation? The assistant told me this was Christiana Care Policy. I called Christiana Care Health System and they were appalled that I should be told something like that.
