Dr. Renee C Whelan, OD

Dr. Whelan is a very kind, patient and knowledgeable Optometrist. I did wind up seeing her at first due to an error in the office when there was in issue with insurance and they cancelled my appointment with Dr. Russo. I believe fate took a hand that day. Dr. Whelan realized something that had likely been missed for many years with me, given that no one had run a simple test of covering and uncovering my eyes individually in years. She discovered I'd developed manifest-latent nystagmus and would need a prism in my right lens of my glasses. I've spent years needing a vision form filled out as I could never cover one eye and read the required lines when I got my vision tested. Thanks to Dr. Whelan I passed this test today at my local BMV office. I won't know until February if I can do so for my DOT Physical but I'm hopeful. I could have gone many more years, or my life, without knowing this. While it did not save my life it surely made it better.

Dr Whelan was a referral by my primary care physician after the retirement of my long term sprcialist. Dr Whelan does complete exams and referred me to a specialist when I experienced a dramatic and sudden change in my eyesight. She continued to follow-up with me after eye surgery and we are back on a normal annual visit. If you need an optometrist in the Greater Portland area look no further.
