I must say that I am writing my review again because, for some reason, my previous review was deleted from Google, which I don't think is fair. If there is nothing to hide, both positive and negative reviews should be welcomed, as they reflect patients' different experiences and opinions. Don't you think? I am sharing our experience because I believe patients should always feel comfortable asking questions and seeking a second opinion before agreeing to any medical procedure. My mother was referred to Dr. Ricardo Bellera by her primary care physician. After performing several tests, he explained that she had two veins in each leg that were somewhat obstructed and not functioning at 100%. He recommended a procedure involving closing or those veins so that the blood flow could be redirected through other healthy veins. Because we were not completely comfortable moving forward without learning more, we spoke with relatives and friends about the situation. We were surprised to discover… that three other people we personally know had also been recommended a similar procedure by the same doctor. This made us even more cautious and encouraged us to seek a second medical opinion. We took all of my mother's test results to another cardiologist, who carefully examined her legs, asked many questions about her symptoms, and reviewed all of the previous test results. After doing so, he explained that, in his opinion, there was no immediate need for her to undergo the procedure. He pointed out that she was not experiencing significant symptoms such as swelling, pain, visibly inflamed veins, or other problems that would strongly indicate the need for this type of intervention at this time. He made it clear that the decision was ultimately hers, but he did not consider the procedure necessary based on her current condition. I understand that doctors can have different medical opinions and approaches to treatment, and I am not questioning anyone's qualifications. However, our experience reinforced how important it is to ask questions and obtain a second opinion before undergoing a procedure, especially when you are not experiencing significant symptoms. For our family, getting that second opinion gave us much greater peace of mind. I strongly encourage anyone who is recommended an invasive or irreversible procedure to educate themselves, ask about alternatives, and consider getting another professional opinion before making a final decision. Quiero compartir nuestra experiencia porque considero que todo paciente debe sentirse en libertad de hacer preguntas y buscar una segunda opinión antes de aceptar cualquier procedimiento médico. Mi mamá fue referida al Dr. Ricardo Bellera por su médico de atención primaria. Después de realizarle varios estudios, el doctor le explicó que tenía dos venas en cada pierna que estaban un poco obstruidas y que no estaban funcionando al 100 %. Debido a esto, le recomendó realizar un procedimiento para cerrar o eliminar esas venas y desviar el flujo sanguíneo hacia otras venas saludables. Como no nos sentíamos completamente seguras de proceder sin conocer un poco más, decidimos conversar con familiares y amigos sobre la situación. Para nuestra sorpresa, descubrimos que otras tres personas que conocemos personalmente también habían recibido del mismo doctor la recomendación de realizarse un procedimiento similar. Esto nos hizo ser aún más cautelosas y decidimos buscar una segunda opinión médica. Llevamos todos los estudios y resultados de mi mamá a otro cardiólogo. Este doctor examinó cuidadosamente sus piernas, le hizo muchas preguntas sobre sus síntomas y revisó detalladamente los resultados de los estudios anteriores. Después de evaluarla, nos explicó que, en su opinión, no existía una necesidad inmediata de realizar el procedimiento. Dr. Bellera is punctual, professional, outgoing, engaging and easy to talk to. He "knows his stuff" and is very direct, uses easy-to-understand vocabulary and is very approachable. I like him!
