Dr. Ricardo Prieto, MD

Dr. Prieto is knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. He took the time to make me feel comfortable before my procedure. His team is organized and professional as well. I would highly recommend Dr. Prieto.

I was referred by my PCP for a routine colonoscopy at age 50. During a review of medical records he saw that I suffered from intermittent, mild constipation over the years. Instead of prescribing something for it, he focused only on the colonoscopy procedure itself. He ordered a 2 1/2+ day liquid diet prior to the colonoscopy. I only found this out from the hospital nurses after I complained of being HANGRY after the procedure. They told me that they prescribe that for patients who have constipation. What is interesting is that he knew I was going to see a nutritionist that same week that I was in the office and said, "be sure to let the nutritionist know about your constipation" so I did. She suggested OVER THE COUNTER Magnesium Citrate (600 MG) and I have been cured ever since. Instead of asking me to tell the nutritionist (RN) why didn't he (MD) just prescribe the OVER THE COUNTER magnesiums citrate himself. or even suggest or ask, "Have you tried magnesium Citrate?" … And because they didn't share with me why I had a longer prep. I didn't know that I could have had an easier prep with only 1 day of fasting if perhaps I communicated with Dr. Prieto regarding the newly cured issue that was cured for 3 weeks prior. I went through a 2 1/2+ day liquid diet for no reason at all (Friday midnight until Monday 3:00 release time from surgical center). I called the Doctor Prieto's office to ask both the nurse or the doctor why, and to explain my frustration. I was brushed off. I doubt I will ever hear from either one of them. Why on earth wouldn't the doctor himself prescribe the over the counter Magnesium Citrate to help me relieve my symptoms? Jerk! He could have helped me sooner, but instead focused on only the colonoscopy. I consider him a very narrow-minded GI physician and perhaps a bit neglectful when a patient has a secondary issue that can be remedied. He didn't find any polyps so I won't be back. I'll find a better physician over the next 10 years. In the meantime, I am grateful for my nutritionist who had educated me more about my health than any physician ever has. Sad. Very, very, sad. Please take time to treat, not just diagnose. On a side note, Dr Prieto is a nice guy. When dismissing you he does it with a seriously genuine smile. I'm not being fececious. His bedside manner is good. He appears kind and gentle. Just not through in his approach to medicine. Thank God I didn't have something more serious. But this was such a simple fix and he missed it. I only wish that he was in my house to experience my temper after being ridiculously hungry. And then when I learned that it might have been unnecessary ............GRRRRRR. That's what makes people write reviews like this!!!!!!!!

Very unprofessional, waited two hours for the appointment, he and his staff made simple mistakes that can be huge when a person is very sick , never recommend this Doctor , avoid a bad experience with this specialist , there are other doctors in his area with real knowledge and respect for patients .
