Dr. Ricardo Zabala Vinuya, MD

My daughter is an adult now. His diagnoses and treatment of her way back when he was at Children’s in Detroit was lifesaving. I can’t thank him enough.

I took my daughter to see Dr. Vinuya after being referred to him by my primary care doctor. We suspected that my child had asthma and allergies. After running the tests to check for asthma, Dr. Vinuya entered the room and declared, "She has asthma." So, we discussed treatments and medications. Although Dr. Vinuya was very kind, I felt a bit rushed. On our follow up visit, I began to discuss my child's asthma. He stopped me mid-sentence and said "She doesn't have asthma." I responded, "You told me that she did the last time I was here." He said, "We don't like to say that kids this age have asthma because they are so young. As they grow their lungs grow. She may not have this problem after the age of about 6." Why am I being told two different things? Dr. Vinuya also administered a test to determine what she was allergic to. He determined that she was allergic to cats, dogs, and trees. After our visits my daughter took a bite of a Reese cup and complained of her tongue "feeling… funny." Luckily, the reaction was mild. I scheduled an appointment with a different allergist who determined that she has a peanut allergy! Not only that, but she also is very allergic to eggs and tree nuts. I know that this allergy didn't develop in the short time frame. Why wasn't I told this by Dr. Vinuya? My child could have ended up in the hospital (or worse) because Dr. Vinuya and his staff either didn't tell me about the allergy or somehow forgot to test her for it. Both of which seem ludicrous given how common and severe peanut allergies can be. I will not be visiting Dr. Vinuya's office again or recommending him to anyone I know and care about.

My encounter with Dr. R. Vinuya and his staff was positive from the initial call to the office. The doctor and all of the staff are so professional and caring. As a nurse practitioner I value the expertise of specialists and as his patient I valued the time Dr. Vinuya spent engaging me in my treatment plan. I left with a clear set of instructions and plans for additional treatment options if necessary.

Very concerned bright doctor. Extremely knowledgable and helpful with allergies. Spent enormous amount of time and staff was wonderful. Can't say enough good things .

Dr. Vinuya is an amazing doctor and wonderful with children. He has a real expertise in his field of medicine.

Had my son tested for allergies. Basically, other than perscribing basic medication, he refused to further treat my son because other people in our household smoke. I requested and received a copy of the allergy tests he administered (one page document), but misplaced it. Dr. refuses to send another unless I pay him $25!
