Dr. Richard Bruce Ashby, MD

I went to Dr. Richard Ashby guy after I injured my neck. My neck was cocked to the left and I couldn't raise my left arm. I requested an MRI referral. He wanted to give me anti-inflammatory medication and wanted me to see him in a couple of weeks. I refused to leave without an MRI referral. When I went to one of the top neurosurgeon in the area, he immediately looked at me and my MRI and operated immediately. I need a C6-C7 fusion (that was successful) and Ashby wanted to give me anti-inflammatory medication. Unreal. Please only go to Mr. Ashby if you need a flu shot.

Never on time for patient appointment. Date his patients.poor bedside manners. Run run find another doctor if you can

I have been a patient of Dr. Richard Ashby for a little over 13 years. During this time, I have experienced numerous wait times for over 2 or more hours! He has relocated so many times I've lost count. I've discovererd his relocations only be calling office numbers to make appointments and finding them disconnected!!!! My Lord, there should be some sort of patient database available in his office so that his cerebrally challenged receptionists can at least remove the gum from their mouths and alert the patients of relocations, moves or office telephone number changes!! I shouldn't have to use the tactics of a private detective to find Dr. Ashby! I just called his DC office.. (he has yet again left a VA office) to discuss prescription refills. A linguistically challenged reception answered the phone. After I said hello and said my name, she dropped the phone, picked it back up, and said, " scuse me, what you say"? I said hello and spoke my name again. I asked about… prescription refills, and she asked me when I had seen Dr. Ashby last. I replied, " Oh, a month or so ago". She very sarcastically responsed with " well, then you ought not to be out of your medicine should you". I though to myself how dare you speak to me that way!!! I replied with, well maybe it was 2 months or so! Regardless of a month or so or 2 or 3 months, that rude receptionist has no right to speak to me or any patient that way!! This is only one of many times I've talked with a rude, clueless receptionist in Dr. Ashby's office. Further, the receptionist told me that I had to make an appointment with the DC office. By this time, I really was through talking with this wretched creature on the other end of my phone! I then said, "my goodness Dr. Ashby has moved so many times", the receptionist interrupted me in mid sentence asked my name again!!!!! Are you kidding me!!!!! She said my name was not in their computer, and she needed all my information again! OMG!!! I asked her how was it conceivable that I wasn't in Dr. Ashby's computer? She angrily said that I had seen him in VA and this was DC! I replied OMG, are you kidding! She talked over me, told me, " it ain't that bad!" I then said forget it, I'm done, and I hung up. I hate to end a relationship that I've had with Dr. Ashby for so long. However, his pitifully crude, ignorant staff, horrific wait times and lack of internal organization has taken my to the brink. Dr. Ashby is a good doctor, and I generally believe that he cares about his patients. I suggest that he however overhauls his staff and patient databases, and develops a heightened respect for his patient's time. Great up-front customer service can really set the tone for any office. Take note Dr. Ashby and goodbye. I've already found a new doctor.

I have been with Dr. Ashby for over 5 years. During this time I have had to wait well over 1 hr for my appointments. On one occasion, I waited 3 hours and on another 5 hours. Why continue to wait?, because to get an appointment is difficult and his bedside manner is quite remarkable. You can talk to him about any problems you are experiencing, and he listens no matter how long it takes for you to divulge the information. I often think this is the very cause of his many delays.

Dr. Ashby's office is disorganized, with receptionists laughing as they answer the phone. Once you get an appointment, expect to wait more than 1 hr (I waited 1.5 hrs on two different visits). Expect to get a blood pressure reading and checkup regardless of the reason you are visiting. Finally, if you have a more unusual situation, don't expect Dr. Ashby to know the answers to your questions.

The doctor never showed up after a 2 1/2 hour wait. Never on time. Doesn't seem to care about the patients time. I will never return or recommend this doctor to anyone.
