Dr. Richard Joseph Auchus, MD

My experience with Dr. Auchus was bittersweet. He is a very intelligent doctor yet humble and has empathy. He explained things well and answered all my questions (which were many). He didn't rush through the appointment and treated me like a human being not just " one more dollar bill" . His intelligence is mind blowing. He discuss matters, explains and gave me options. Now the bitter part...expensive appointment and he is VERY booked..He also moves in slow pace.. I have to wait 7 months to see him again for my cushings disease results and may have to seek help in a different state if symptoms get worse. Aside these cons, he is awesome.

Does not respond to emergencies. Too research oriented, does not care a hoot about patient needs. Seems to live in another world than us ordinary people.

I waited 3 months to get into this doctor, well in the appointment he acted like I was wasting his time, he hardly listened to anything I said to him, diagnosed me with something that was impossible knowing I had a total (complete) hysterectomy 15 years ago, and just blows off what is going on, Time to find a doctor in another state, hopefully then they will actually give a sh__ about the patients. Because as of right now I have not found a doctor in Michigan that will actually take the time to look at my medical records, listen to what is and has been going on to figure out what is going on.

Simply put: I would not go to anyone else. He is highly regarded, highly intelligible, highly trained, highly credible, highly devoted, and the list goes on!! Any reviewer who lacks an understanding of this (and knowledge themselves) should be disregarded; please, do not be misled!! Do your research, consult with him, and see for yourself.

This doctor jumps to conclusions without doing the appropriate investigations for those with HPA axis problems. He also bitterly complains about time spent with patients and criticizes patients in his progress notes. He seems committed to not treating adrenal insufficiency with adequate replacement doses. And he completely dismisses large pituitary microadenomas. And the list goes on.

As an individual with a very rare, genetic cancer, I was referred to Dr. Auchus. While he is an amiable person, he is very difficult to schedule an appointment with. I'm not certain of his actual level of knowledge of pheochromocytoma (the type of cancer I have) and he has never yet provided me with any test results. I guess I figure that no news is good news, so I haven't pursued reports. Probably wouldn't matter anyway, he didn't even have business cards to give me, so I have no direct contact information.

This guy will literally lie to say you don't have Cushing's or any other disorder in spite of all the evidence and then screw you over with his opinion without doing a single test. Don't waste your time. He's goofy.
