Dr. Richard Patrick Boughal, MD

When Dr. Boughal moved his practice across the street, he seems to have left his humanity and caring there as well. My MIL has been a patient of his for over 20 years. She is suffering from some elderly ailments. One of these ailments is “fainting”. Two years ago, he diagnosed it as vasovagal syncope - a condition that we recently discovered can be treated with a medication. Instead of doing this he sent her to Dr. Macaro who said she needs a Link, then a pacemaker. This did not correct the problem, as she continued to faint. Dr. Boughal and Dr. Macaro stated she needed to go for a tilt test. This is an expensive, invasive test. It involves making the patient pass out, on purpose. We brought in a PA who specializes in treating the elderly. She performed a non-invasive test to determine that it was indeed this vasovagal syncope. These test results, which are used by John Hopkins Medical Center, were brought to Dr. Boughal so that he could duplicate the test and write a prescription… for the needed medicine. He refused. Dr. Macao’s office also refused to perform this non-invasive test. They both wanted the expensive test, that was performed in the hospital for an incredible amount of money. The result of this expensive tilt test, you ask? Yes, she has been diagnosed with vasovagal syncope just like the PA’s test results and was prescribed the medication the PA suggested. In short, we are extremely upset and disappointed with Dr. Boughal and Dr. Macaro who seem to put money ahead of patient care.

Dr. Boughal has been my primary care physician for apptoximately 20 years now and I am very satisfied with his service.

Will listen and make suggestions. Doesn't waste your time or money on unnecessary tests.

I have gone to Dr Boughal for over 25 years. He gives an extremely thorough physical, takes the time to explain the results of every test, and is expert at diagnosing illnesses. He also does not rush to prescribe medications without a retest and follow up unless something very serious is indicated. Would recommend him to anyone!

Staff is friendly and helpful. Dr. is thorough, good at following up with other doctors treating me, understanding, and encouraging. Overall, top notch!
