The encounter was inpatient as a consultant for the care of a family member who had severe sepsis due to pneumonia and he insisted that it was not pneumonia but atelectasis despite multiple risk factors and clear clinical signs (elevated white blood cells with lots of bands, chest XR findings, sputum) and did not allow use of antibiotics until the patient went into septic shock. 2 days after starting antibiotics, the patient was improving and he wanted to stop the antibiotics still insisting on his erroneous diagnosis of atelectasis and that despite gram negative rods growing in blood culture collected prior to the start of antibiotics. I had to fight with him to have the antibiotics continued and prevent the death of my loved one. the main hospital he practices at is also very bad.
