Summary

Dr. Eddy was born and raised in the farming country of the northern county of Sussex in New Jersey. There he developed a keen appreciation of nature and wildlife, and his passion for sports. His greatest gift in life was his guiding parents – his father, a surgeon; and his mother, a school teacher; and his wonderful sister. He attended and graduated from George School, a Quaker college preparatory school in Bucks County, PA. He developed good academic skills there and also played 4 years of varsity soccer, basketball, and baseball. He then attended and graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio, majoring in pre-medicine. He again played four years of varsity soccer, basketball, and baseball. He achieved All-State honors in soccer and basketball, and All-American and US Olympics honors in soccer. He then actually played professional basketball with the Philadelphia 76érs for one season. He was accepted at Jefferson Medical College, in Philadelphia, PA, and graduated with his MD degree.

Dr. Eddy has extensive post-graduate education and training in Internal Medicine – punctuated by being drafted into the US Navy and assigned to duty as Chief of Medicine, at the US Naval Hospital at the 29 Palms Marine Base in southern California. He was the chief resident in Internal Medicine at the Lahey Clinic Foundation and at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital (part of the Harvard system). He then went on to complete extensive training in Endocrinology and Metabolism, all completed in Boston, MA. He was a chief fellow in Endocrinology/Metabolism at the Joslin Clinic (also part of the Harvard system) and the New England Medical Center (Tufts). After this training, he was appointed to the Faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine.

He then moved to Scott & White Clinic/Hospital Foundation in Temple, TX as the Chief of their Endocrinology-Metabolism section. He was also selected to be the Director of their clinical research laboratory, and Director of the post-graduate fellowship training program. At this time he was also appointed to the faculty of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. After successfully developing the Endocrinology-Metabolism division at Scott & White clinic, he was then enticed to move to Dallas, TX to take over as the chief of Endocrinology-Metabolism at the medical school and was an associate professor of medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and their affiliated hospitals.

Eventually, he moved on to accept a new professional challenge as the chief of the Endocrinology-Metabolism section in Columbia, MO at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. He continued to teach residents/fellows in endocrinology and was also the director of the post-graduate fellowship training program. He was also honored to be the director of the NIH Clinical Research Center.

The final step in his academic career was his faculty appointment as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California. At this time he was also the director of the Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology in Orange County, CA and was the medical director for the Nichols Institute –an international reference laboratory based in Southern California (now known as Quest Diagnostics Lab Corporation).

In 1998, while looking to retire from academic medicine and looking for new professional challenges, Dr. Eddy decided to move to the Rogue Valley and he eventually established the current Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology clinic and its sophisticated clinical and research laboratory. He’s proud of the academically-oriented clinical practice at the Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology and the delivery of advanced endocrine-metabolic health care to the Rogue Valley and all of Southern Oregon and Northern California. He’s very proud of his staff here at the clinic – all of the senior staff were hand-chosen by him and together they founded this clinic in March of 2003.
