Dr. Richard A Furie, MD

Would suggest patients seeking care from a rheumatologist to dodge this doc. Suspect of how Furie gained his association with the Lupus Foundation and further baffled as to how he is head of Rheumatology at Northwell. This office contacted me on several occasions to participate in trial drugs and research during my time here. However, my condition was completely uncontrolled and cared for sufficiently during my time as patient with him. He never contacted me back after being hospitalized on more than one occasion, after ER doctors instructed me to let him know of my visits, but had no problem asking me for my participation in trials? In fact, I was misdiagnosed and given care for a condition I never had in the first place. His bedside manner is absent, arrogant beyond belief and terrible with patient communication. Prepare yourself for some gaslighting, you will be in for it. Perhaps it could be overlooked if the care was exceptionally good, but it was not even substandard. As… someone who has been in the medical field for fifteen years: How can you in good faith leave a patient to suffer yet hound them incessantly to participate in your personal research? The entire experience here has left me hesitant of considering care with another rheumatologist under the Northwell umbrella. If the head of department is this inept…

If my spouse stayed with Dr. Furie, he would have died. There are so many wonderful rheumatologists out there (especially with NYC so close) who are happy to help patients, Dr. Furie and the Northwell rheumatology offices located in Long Island are not. His/their focus is on research, doing podcasts and interviews. Not taking care of ill patients suffering with progressive Lupus.

Wow. What an experience at this practice, still in shock from the experience. Went here for an appointment with my mother for SLE treatment, as we had been looking for a new provider. After researching doctors, we found Dr.Furie through the Lupus Foundation. Waited several months for an appointment, which is understandable for a “good” specialist. Well, when we had our appointment, it took about five minutes to figure out we would be in for a ride. I could not believe the unprofessionalism, down talking and straight up dismissive behavior this man displayed. He would look at his computer screen and not even attempt to make eye contact with us. He explained no labs, stayed silent the whole appointment, never answered questions and treated us so disrespectfully. There are so many rheumatologists out there, we will find the care we require. But just really floored by this doctor. I do agree with other reviewers, this provider should be investigated further.

I do not know how this man is allowed the privilege to practice medicine. I left as quickly as I arrived at this office. He speaks to you like you’re an invalid, the gaslighting is nonstop and he offers absolutely no suggestions/support/solutions. Northwell should be ashamed and embarrassed to have this individual on their payroll, he should have his license to practice medicine revoked

Avoid!! This office and doctor are a complete nightmare. I went to one appointment and walked out in tears, the arrogance and dismissal is very real here. I can honestly say, Northwell rheumatology is an absolute joke.

Unsure how this man is still allowed to practice, he should be investigated.

Would not recommend this doctor or facility to anyone. I had assumed (naively) due to this doctor’s association with the Lupus foundation, I would receive decent care and treatment for SLE. Boy, was I wrong! Lack of care, unprofessional, no explanation of test results (you’re on your own with this doc) along with his pompous attitude has been completely unacceptable. After my second appointment, I was out of there fast. I could never, ever imagine treating a patient, or anyone for that matter as I was treated here. Please avoid, find quality care elsewhere.
