Dr. Richard Cary Hill JR., MD

I've got an hour to spare and I figured I'd "review" Dr.Hill. So seems like he does care about his patients after all :-) I have been seeing him for almost 6 years now for multiple reasons and never had any issues with the accuracy of his diagnosis or the quality of his work - that's the only thing I personally watch out for in my doctors and the main reason I've been his patient for so long, even though throughout the time, Iâ??ve had contradicting feelings about his style of work. Surprisingly, the more pregnant I was the more I disliked Dr.Hill but afterwards Iâ??d always think he is pretty great. What a coincidence. Here are some of my observations: ** knowledgeable and has great intuition (!!) ** proactive and organized - everything seems to be calculated in his work life: it's cute, sometimes he sounds like a mathematician ** thorough and precise - I'm usually afraid to rely on otherâ??s critical thinking abilities, and his oddly exceptional problem solving skills Most of the… time crush my doubts (but sometimes I just know better) ** as his patient, I find myself capable of trusting him ** sometimes he reminds me of Carl Rogers - both, the appearance and the way he talks ** able to take in patient's pain and anxieties while retaining focus - God given gift! ** can manage uncertainty - seems natural for him ** empathetic and he communicates it really well, BUT only when empathy is required (the part, his somatic and histrionic patients always get confused about) ** compassion is his natural quality. Once, while trying real hard to hide my tears, Iâ??ve shared with him that I feel fat (believe it or not, it happens to pregnant women) and I was mesmerized by his insightfulness. He actually sat down with me and patiently explained what is happening to my body when Iâ??m on my 1st trimester of my 2nd pregnancy - did not see that coming! Itâ??s not the only example but surely it is a good one ** friendly yet professional; respectful of patient's privacy - does not overwhelm with personal questions (love it) but always asks enough to know what care to provide ** kind and honest - definitely appears that way, who knows if it's true or just a learned behavior, but this attitude does help patients feel comfortable during their visits ** quite reliable, conscientious - he's got it; Iâ??d agree with this even when I am 42 weeks pregnant ** patient, doesnâ??t rush important decisions. Ever. ** physically capable of listening to the patients' sob stories but does it only to a certain degree. Sorry, emotional talkative "dying" full-of-drama patients :-) (I am one of those) ** easy to reach (electronically) - love that about new system! ** open minded, flexible (really admire that), yet persuasive! Patients better know their stuff before they come in to see him :D or he will say something like "Let me educate you" - God, I hate it when he says that ** operates without prejudice - well, just like any other human he might have some but he doesn't show any ** outstanding communicator and not talkative (itâ??s a plus) - started seeing him when I just moved to the states speaking very poor minimal English and somehow he was able to help understand and articulate quite a few complicated concepts to me! ** easy going with quiet confidence: even though he appears to be very humble - he's not that humble, be aware :D ** seems like a person of good integrity - again, this could be true about him or just a learned behavior; it surely works to make the visits comfortable and relaxed ** found him somewhat curious and observant - but itâ??s only when he is in a cheerful mood, and when the stars have aligned ** recognizes that change both in medicine and society is constant - my most favorite about his approach ** would make a good psychologist! but... instead during his outside-of-work time he writes publications and does research on dogs :D (of all the things!) I think because dogs donâ??t talk :D ** Definitely would recommend to a friend ** Also, if to look at his profile on PAMF website, there is his "rating" from 2014 and it's nearly perfect (ratings were compiled from responses from mailed surveys sent to patients shortly after their visit). I found it very useful to know ratings from all of his patience vs from few mad women on Yelp - they unintentionally freaked me out! Some of those Yelp reviewers are actually the perfect example of somatic and histrionic patients. But, honestly, I was there too (I'm talking about the madness). Obgyn appointments put women in very vulnerable position which causes them to emotionally overreact to the tiniest details especially when they are going through some physical discomfort in the most private parts of their bodies. Humans canâ??t stop being humans - the concept that might be hard to grasp at first but it is fundamental to understand the very humanity.

He is always in a some sort of a hurry. It's really annoying when you just want to ask a few questions (not life-threatening) for months and it never seems to be the "right" time to bother him. I ended up going through 9 mon of my pregnancy never opening my mouth, just agreeing to everything and leaving office in 2 min. And then googling everything since I have no one to ask. It's just not the care a good doctor should provide. Everything else is ok about him - an average white dude. And he did not deliver my baby - I'm still so happy he wasn't on call that day :-) just didn't want to feel like my doctor had something else more important to do than delivering my little one.

Dr. Hill has been my wonderful doctor for almost 10 years. He can come off as short at first, but is really quite funny and engaging once you get to know him. He has always been straightforward with me and involves me in my care. I couldn't be happier that he has delivered my two beautiful children. Thank you Dr. Hill!

Very very poor bedside manner. I routinely feel blamed and condescended to when I go in for my pre-natal visits. I would not recommend this doctor.
